Save Favorites with One Click
- When visiting a website, click the blue Star icon on the Navigation Toolbar to instantly bookmark that website on your favorites list. The Star will glow orange, and will now glow orange every time you visit this favorite site.
- Click on the Star icon a second time (it should be glowing orange) to edit the Name or Tags (keywords) associated with this favorite. Tags can be used later to help you find or organize sites you've labeled with similar characteristics.
- Click one of the arrows to the right of the Folder field to select a different location folder for the new favorite.
- Click the button Use as Default Location if you'd like to save new favorites to a particular folder automatically.
- Check the box beside Show this dialog when adding favorite web pages, if you would like this dialog to appear automatically the first time (rather than the second time) you favorite any new website.
Manage Favorites
- Click on the Favorite Sites multi-star icon on the Flock Toolbar to open Flock's Favorites Sidebar.
- Click on folders to open and close them. Click on Local Favorites and then Favorites Menu to view your main favorites list.
- Re-order your favorites by clicking and dragging the titles into different locations or folders.
- Right-click (CTRL-click on Mac) anywhere on the Favorites Sidebar to access other common favorites management options.
- For more flexible editing of your favorites list, open the Favorites Menu and choose Organize Favorites.
- You now have a variety of options:
- Click on any favorite to edit the Name, Location or Tags.
- Click and drag any Name to a new location or folder.
- Press the Delete key to remove a favorite.
- Press SHIFT+ARROW to select more than one favorite for moving or deleting.
- Open the Organize menu for other editing options.
- Open the Views menu to select specific columns to view, or to sort your favorites in different orders. This does not actually change the order of your favorites on your favorites menu or in the Favorites Sidebar, but simply allows you to temporarily view your favorites in the manager in different orders.
Quick-Search Your Favorites, Browsing History and the Web
- Flock gives you several ways to view and search favorites, browsing history and the web:
- Open the Favorites Sidebar to view your web surfing history and your favorites.
- Enter terms in the search field at the top of the Favorites Sidebar to search the names of your favorite sites and their tags. Results are returned automatically as you type.
- Type search terms into the Location Bar to bring up automatic results from your browsing history, favorites and tags.
- Enter search terms into the Flock Search Widget located to the right of the Location Bar to search the internet, favorites and recently visited sites. Top-rated results are returned automatically. Press the Enter key to go directly to the default search engine website for more results.
Change How Searches are Done
- To change the default search engine or customize how searches are performed, click the search engine icon on the left side of the Flock Search Widget and select Search Preferences from the bottom of the drop-down list.
- Alternatively, select Tools > Options from the menus and click the Searching tab to open the search preferences dialog.
- Check or uncheck options under Live Results and Include in Search Elsewhere to customize how the Flock Search Widget performs searches.
- Click the arrow beside Default Search Engine to select a different popular website, like Google or Ask.com, for your primary searches.
- Click OK.
- Click on the Download More Now link to visit a website which can quickly install many other search engines into Flock.
- Add additional search engines when you're visiting a website by clicking on the Search Engine Icon
in the Location Bar when it turns orange. - To change the default search engine on your My World page, click on the icon in the My World search field and select from the drop-down list.
Set Up an Online Favorites Account
- Log into your account at a Flock-supported service which allows you to save favorites online. If you don't have an online favorites account but would like one, we recommend the following services:
- del.icio.us
- Ma.gnolia
- Check our website for a complete, updated list of the websites that Flock supports.
- Upon logging in, Flock will launch a Message Bar to ask you whether to save your password.
- Click the Remember button if you'd like Flock to be able to enter your password to that account for you in future. (Obviously, be careful about saving passwords if you're using a shared computer.)
- You may also be prompted to confirm that you want Flock to remember this account.
- Click Remember Account if you want Flock to retain your account information for automatic access the next time you open Flock.
Note: This is different than telling Flock to remember just your password, because this includes remembering your contacts in that account etc. And if you accessed the account the first time by clicking on the link to the service through Flock's Accounts and Services Sidebar or My World (as opposed to entering the URL yourself), then Flock will automatically remember the account without asking you. If you don't want Flock to remember the account, click Forget Account in the Accounts and Services Sidebar. Clicking Forget Account removes the account from Flock's active interactions, but in no way affects your account with the service provider, e.g. your actual del.icio.us account is not affected in any way. - Upon log-in, Flock automatically downloads and adds your online favorites into the Online Favorites section of the Favorites Sidebar.
- Click on the name of an online favorite in the Favorites Sidebar to visit the website, just like any other favorite.
- You can open or close the Favorites Sidebar at any time by clicking the multi-star icon on the Flock Toolbar. (In Windows, pressing CTRL+SHIFT+F is also a toggle for the Favorites Sidebar.).
- You can also access your online favorites by selecting Favorites > Online Favorites from the menu.
- That's it! Read on to find out how Flock can help you publish and manage your online favorites.
Publish Favorites Online
- Click the Star icon on the Navigation Toolbar to make a new web page a favorite, or select Favorite > Favorite This Page from the menu.
- Click the Star icon again, or select Favorite > Favorite This Page from the menu again to open the favorites Properties dialog.
- Check the box beside Online to publish this favorite in your online favorites account.
Note: You must have already set up an online favorites account in Flock (see above). - Uncheck the box beside Folder:Unsorted Favorites if you do not want to copy the new favorite into your Local Favorites list as well.
- Check Private if you wish to prevent the online favorite from being publicly viewable, and your online favorites service supports this option.
- Press the Use as Default Locations button if you want Flock to always add your new favorites to your online favorites account automatically.
- Check Show this dialog when adding favorite web pages if you prefer Flock to open this dialog immediately every time you create a new favorite.
- Click Done.
- That's it! The new favorite will instantly appear in your Online Favorites in Flock's Favorites Sidebar, and on your del.icio.us or Ma.gnolia web page.
