Save, Copy, Print and Download

Flock makes it easy to copy, save, print and download just about anything you see or hear on the web. After learning these basics, you'll also want to check out Flock's advanced features for saving and sharing in Share Pictures, Text and Video.

In this section:

Copy and Paste Text

  1. Click and drag the mouse or cursor to select the text you want to copy.
  2. Open the Edit menu and choose Copy (or press CTRL-C).
  3. Click in another type of document (e.g. an email), and choose Edit > Paste from the menu (or press CTRL-V) and paste the text.

Copy Links (URLs)

  1. Rest the mouse pointer over a link or image on any web page.
  2. Right-click. A drop-down menu appears.
  3. Choose Copy Link Location or Copy Image Location. If an image is also a link, you can choose either.
Tip: Right-click over a link to an email address, and the drop-down menu will include an option to Copy Email Address.
  4. Once you've copied a link, you can paste it into Flock's Location Bar or anywhere else.

Save an Entire Web Page

  1. With a web page open in your browser, open the File menu and select Save Page As. The Save As dialog appears.
  2. Choose a location for the saved page.
  3. Beside Save as Type, click the down arrow to choose a format for the page you want to save:
    • Web Page, Complete: Save the entire web page including pictures.
    • Web Page, HTML Only: Save the original page without pictures.
    • Text file: Save the original page as a pure text file.
  4. Type a name for the page and click Save.

Save an Image

  1. Rest the mouse pointer over the image.
  2. Right-click. A drop-down menu appears.
  3. To set an image as your desktop background, choose Set As Desktop Background.
  4. To save the image as a file, select Save Image As. The Save Image dialog appears.
  5. Type a name for the image and click Save.

Save Other Types of Files

  1. Some files are designed to be saved to your computer automatically when you click on them. If not, rest the mouse pointer over the link to the file you want to save (e.g. an audio file like an MP3, or an Adobe PDF).
  2. Right-click on the file. A drop-down menu appears.
  3. Select Save Link as... The Save File dialog appears.
  4. Choose a location for the saved file.
  5. Type a name for the file or choose the original file name given, and click Save.

Save Files through the Download Manager

  1. To download a program, video or other type of file from the internet, click on the link to it.
  2. The Download Manager will automatically open.
  3. Choose whether you want to Open the file, or Save it on your computer.
  4. To open it, specify which program on your computer should open it.
  5. If you choose to save it, the download manager opens and tracks the progress of your download.
Note: Flock may alert you if a file you're downloading contains an application. Downloaded applications may have unwanted side effects, or may include unsafe components, such as viruses or spyware. To be safe, only download files from trusted sources which you've chosen to download yourself.

Keep Track of Downloaded Files

  1. Open the Download Manager by opening the Tools menu and selecting Downloads.
  2. To remove a file from the list, click Remove.
  3. Click Clean Up to remove all completed, canceled, or failed downloads from the list. Removing a file from the list will not remove it from your computer. To remove the file from your computer, you must find the downloaded file on your system and delete it there.
  4. Open any downloaded file by clicking Open or by double-clicking on the file name.
    Note:
Some files, such as programs, can't be opened from the Download Manager for computer safety reasons.

Customize the Download Manager

  1. Open the Options or Preferences dialog.
    • If you are using Windows, open the Tools menu and select Options.
    • If you are using Linux, open the Edit menu and select Preferences.
    • If you are using Mac OS, open the Flock menu and select Preferences.

  2. In the Preferences dialog, click Main.
  3. Under Downloads, choose if you want the downloads dialog to open and/or close automatically when a download begins.
  4. Under Save Files To, choose whether Flock should ask where to save every file it downloads, or automatically save all files to a folder you choose.
By default, Flock will save all of your downloaded files to the desktop.

Print Web Pages

  1. To print the current page you're viewing in your browser, open the File menu.
  2. Choose Print Preview to verify the content will print in the way you want.
Note: How web pages print depends in part on the author of the web page itself.
  3. Choose Page Setup from the File menu to choose portrait or landscape orientation, to enlarge or reduce the print size, or to decide whether background colors and images should be printed. You can also set margins and choose to print a header or footer.
  4. Choose Print to print your document.
  5. The Print dialog lets you choose which printer to use, how many copies to print, and so forth. The options available to you depend on the type of printer you have.
Note: The preceding options may appear slightly differently, or in different orders, in computers running Windows, MAC and Linux.
