Privacy and the Browser
Like other web browsers, Flock keeps track of a lot of information for you, such as the personal data you type into forms on the Web, a history of web pages you've viewed, and a list of all the files you've downloaded.
While it is convenient to have such data available for your own use, you may want to clear personal data if others have access to your computer. This section outlines the ways that you can increase your personal privacy when using Flock. All of the information on this page refers to options available in the privacy tab in Flock's options.
To access the privacy tab
- Open the Options or Preferences window.
How you access the window depends upon your operating system.- If you are using Windows, open the Tools menu and choose Options.
- If you are using Linux, open the Edit menu and choose Preferences.
- If you are using Mac OS, open the Flock menu and choose Preferences.
- Click the Privacy tab.
Information on forms
You encounter a lot of forms on the Web. For instance, if you join a web service like Flickr or do online shopping, you'll fill out forms asking for your contact or shipping information. Flock remembers the information (like your name and address) that you type into such forms. When you encounter a similar form, Flock automatically fills in the information for you.
If you like, you can turn this feature off and clear any saved information. To stop saving form data
- In the preferences window, click the Saved Forms tab.
- To immediately clear the list of web pages you've visited, click Clear Saved Form Data Now.
- Uncheck the box next to Save information I enter in forms and the search bar.
Browsing history
As you browse web pages, Flocks keeps track of web sites you visit. This browsing history is convenient if you want to review where you've been. Flock's search feature uses your history to find the most relevant search results.
You can set Flock to clear your history list after a certain time, or you can clear them manually anytime.
To clear your browsing history
- In the preferences window, click the History tab.
- To immediately clear the list of web pages you've visited, click Clear Browsing History Now.
- Specify the number of days Flock should remember visited pages. If you don't want Flock to keep any history of your visited pages, type a zero.
Download history
Flock also keeps track of your downloaded files, and lists them in the download manager. You can clear this list manually or set Flock to clear it automatically.
To clear your download history
- In the preferences window, click the Download History tab.
- To view the list of downloaded files, click View Download History. If you like, remove individual files from the list.
- To immediately clear the entire list, click Clear Download History Now.
