This section contains information about Flock's Password Manager.
The Password Manager
Flock can remember user names and passwords for web pages so that you don't have to enter them each time you visit. If you prefer that Flock not remember your passwords, you can turn this feature off in the Passwords tab of the Privacy window. You can also create a master password that protects your list of saved passwords.
Turning off password saving
- In the options (preferences) window, click the Security tab.
- To stop Flock from remembering your passwords, uncheck Remember passwords for sites.
- To remove any passwords that Flock has been remembering for you:
- Click Show Passwords.
- In the Password Manager, click Show Passwords.
- Highlight the password(s) you wish to remove, and click Remove.
- To remove them all, click Remove All.
Note: Be sure you really want to remove them all before you click this button. There is no way to retrieve them, except from your own head.
- When you're done, click Hide Passwords.
Setting or removing a master password
Using a master password, Flock can protect your saved passwords and other sensitive information. If you create a master password, Flock then asks you to provide your master password before it automatically enters any saved passwords at web sites. Flock asks for your master password once during each session. (Each time you start Flock after quitting, you start a new session.)
To create a master password
- In the options (preferences) window, click the Security tab.
- Click Use a Master Password.
- Enter your password; then re-enter it. As you enter your password a colored bar will fill in near the bottom of the password window. This bar estimates how secure your password is. The longer the bar, the more secure a password you are entering.

- Click OK.
- To remove your current master password, click Remove Master Password. You must enter your current master password to do this.
Unless you are certain you can remember a master password, don't set one. If you forget your master password, Flock won't be able to provide any of your other saved passwords. If you write your master password on a slip of paper and hide it somewhere, you'll need to remember where it is. The very back of your desk drawer is too obvious.
