To search the web using the Search Bar
- Click the Search Bar.
- Enter your search terms. For example, if you wanted to find information about Dachsunds, enter "Dachsund".
Your typing replaces any text currently in the search bar. - If you recently viewed pages or have favorites with the word "Dachsund" these are shown in a pop-up list as you type.

- The top rated search results will appear in a drop down list. Click the page that you want to go to that page or press return to search for more "Dachsund" pages.
- Search results for "Dachsund" display in your browser's window.

- From the bottom of the page upwards.
- The entire page at once.

- Next: Find text in the page that is below the current cursor position.
- Previous: Find text that is above the current cursor position.

- To find the same word or phrase again, open the Edit menu and choose Find Again or press the Next button on the search bar at the bottom of your browser.
Setting search preferences and your default search engine
You can customize your search preferences to help Flock find the results you are looking for. From the Searching menu, you can set whether to search the pages that you have visited before, install additional search engines or select your default search engine. There are two ways to customize your search preferences.
To access the Search Menu from the Search box
- Click the Search Bar and enter some text to open the Search Menu.
- Select Search Preferences from the bottom of the Search Menu.
To change the Search Engine from the Search box
- Click the icon to the left of the search bar. In the below diagram, you would click the Y! icon.
- Select the search engine of your choice.
To access the Search Menu from the Options window

- If you are using Mac OS, open the Flock menu and choose Preferences.
- Select the Searching tab.
Adding a new search engine
The search bar can be configured to work with any site that offers a search engine. Flock comes with a few search engines already set up and can be configured to support thousands more. There are two ways to add a new search engine to your browser.
To add a new search engine while browsing the web
If you visit a web page that has a search engine that can be added to the search bar, Flock will notify you by turning the search icon (next to the star) orange. Click on this icon to add the search engine to your search bar.
To add a new search engine from the Preferences window
- Click the Search Bar and enter some text to open the Search Menu.
- Select Search Preferences from the bottom of the Search Menu
- Click the link, titled "Download more now!" located near the bottom of a window.
A new tab will open in Flock that takes you to our search engine page. - Select the search engine that you would like to add.
- When Flock asks if you would like to add the search engine the the available search engines in your browser, click OK.
Searching your History and Favorites
The search bar is a powerful tool to use to look through your favorites. It searches by name, description, and by the tags you set up when marking a web page as a favorite. It's often faster to use Flock's search to find your favorites than to open up the favorites manager and search through your collections.
Each time you visit a Web page your browser indexes all the content on that page so that you can easily retrace your steps later. Flock's history search feature searches your indexed history and displays results in the search pop-up list. History search is stored locally for privacy. For increased privacy, you can remove your history using the Clear Private Data command.
Your browser displays pages you've Starred as favorites at the top of the pop-up list results.
To search through your History and Favorites
History search and favorites search work the same way as a web search, except you don't press return after typing into the search bar.
- Click on the search bar, and start typing your search text.
A pop-up list appears below the search bar revealing the results of your search in three sections: the first section lists your favorites and your history, the second returns results from your default search engine, and the third lists additional sources that you may want to search.

- Scroll through these results using the arrow keys or your mouse. Press return or click one of the items to go to that page.
