Flock 2.0 Beta 3 Release Notes

These Release Notes contain known issues that you should be aware of as you take this release out for a test flight:

  • A bug icon is available in the top right corner of the browser. Click this to let us know about any issues or to tell us what you think about the product.
  • The list of bugs you may encounter can be found at http://tinyurl.com/68enp6.
  • Flock 1.0, 1.1, 1.2 and Flock 2.0 beta users share the same profile folder, so all favorites, feeds, media streams, accounts and history will be available when users install and run either version.
  • Themes from other versions of Flock (Eco and Netscape Editions) will not migrate to Flock 2.0 beta. Reinstall the Flock edition with the packaged theme if you want it back.

New in 2.0b3

  • Incorporates Firefox 3.0.2 security patch: https://wiki.mozilla.org/Releases/Firefox_3.0.2
  • Users of New Facebook can now set their Facebook status through the People sidebar.
  • Fixed an issue where Youtube friends would not flow into the People sidebar.
  • Fixed a Delicious login issue.
  • Fixed a Twitter login issue.

Known Issues

General Issues

  • Users may not be able to save new unicode passwords. More information.
  • Mac users with a sidebar open, and hovering over media bar images, may see the image preview remain after hovering over the next image. Move the mouse onto the stuck image to make it go away.
  • Flock 2.0 users who install Flock 1.1 or older will have deactivated Digg, Pownce, and AOL Webmail accounts in their Accounts and Services sidebar.
  • Mac users using the help links in the Preferences panels will be sent to non-existent web pages.
  • Users installing extensions from addons.mozilla.org or extensions.flock.com may see incompatibility notices in cases where the extension creator has not yet updated the extension to work in Flock.
  • Mac users using “File, Close Tab” closes the main browser window in some cases.
  • Some shortcut keys in Mac and Vista may not work properly.
  • In Flock Help, an older User Guide is provided, and will be updated for the release version.

Import and Migration Issues

  • Themes from other versions of Flock (Eco and Netscape Editions) will not migrate to Flock 2.0 beta.
  • Using "File, Import" and selecting Firefox will not import custom bookmarks from Firefox 3.
  • Any bookmarks added while using Flock 2.0 beta will not be available when running a previous version of Flock on the same user profile.
  • Users with queued photos into the Uploader who migrate from Flock 1.x to Flock 2.0 will have to re-add their photos.
  • Users migrating from an older version of Flock may see a broken Blog publishing window.

People Issues

  • Digg users may see black squares in the Media Bar for some stories.
  • Users who disable all cookies will be unable to login to most services.
  • The friend comments notification in Digg’s me card may display a different number of comments than what exists on the Digg comments page.
  • Users searching for friends on the People sidebar and then clicking a friend's media notification will see the People sidebar go blank. Close and open the sidebar to get your friends back.

Webmail Issues

  • DnD any photo from the media bar into a Yahoo Mail compose message will not work.
  • Some webmail services will expire the connection for people who leave their browser logged in for a long time. This means users may not receive expected notifications as the service has logged you out.
  • Windows users hibernating their computers may not receive webmail update notifications on the webmail icon.
  • Flock does not prompt the user with a "Remember Account" notification bar when logging in to a related Google service using a Googlemail.com account.

Media, Media bar and Uploader Issues

  • Folders created in the media stream star menu will not open in the Favorites dropdown.
  • Media stream folders cannot be deleted.
  • Users of Mac OS 10.4.x may see the Flock Magic overlay remain even when moving the mouse away from the media.
  • A limitation on the YouTube API will not light up a friend’s new media notifications in the People sidebar.
  • When users hover over Flickr videos, the media overlay will not appear.
  • A limitation with the YouTube API only allows users to display ten of their favorites in the media bar after clicking My Favorites button on YouTube me card.
  • When dragging YouTube videos from the media bar to a Hotmail email body, the receipient of the email may not be able to click the link.
  • A Flickr API limitation causes media bar display of the lock icon for private photos to be missing.
  • When using the Flock Uploader to Picasa, special characters in the filename will not appear properly on the site.
  • Batch uploading photos may not apply the description field to all uploaded photos.
  • Uploaded photos to Picasa will inherit the timestamp of the album they are added to.
  • Users on Picasa who choose 'Blog' from the Flock magic overlay may see an error message. Dismiss this error message and proceed with the blog post.
  • 'Blog' or 'View Stream' will not not work from the Flock magic overlay on a Photobucket video.
  • Some Mac users may not be able to use the Youtube video controls when the Flock magic overlay is open. Move away to disable the overlay to use the controls.
  • Image protection in Flickr may inhibit some drag and drop sharing actions.

Favoriting Issues

  • Right-click > properties of bookmarks in the toolbar will not pop a dialog if a user says 'do not show again' in the favorites discovery bar.
  • The Ma.gnolia online favorites service will not function properly if users log into Ma.gnolia using other accounts (such as OpenID or Facebook). Login using the Ma.gnolia account option to correct this.
  • Attempting to publish a public bookmark to Del.icio.us or Ma.gnolia via the Favorites Manager will not publish the favorite. Use the Star favorite dialog to publish.

Other Issues

  • Youtube RSS discovery may light up when there is no RSS feed available.
  • Vista users may see the RSS icon in the Flockbar glow when there is no new feed content.
  • Clicking an RSS feed in the feed reader does not mark the article as read.
  • Those users logged into YouTube with their google account, then navigate to Gmail will see a log out notification. To activate Gmail, users will then have to logout of Gmail, and log back in with the same Google account.
  • RSS discovery icon may glow even when there are no unread articles.
  • The RSS reader's 'disable auto-mark as read' does not get disabled when a user opts for this option.
