Dear Flockers,

I wanted to follow-up on the Shadows discussion. Shadows is owned by the Pluck Corporation, who is doing quite well in their core business focused around social media.

However, they have decided to de-emphasize the Shadows bookmarks product to focus on their other products. I have already spoken with Pluck and they have been extremely reasonable in offering to work with us to either offer a smooth transition, or help us figure out a way that Flock can continue to support the service with minimal resources on their side.

Regardless of the outcome, I want to assure our users that:

- Flock is about choice and we are already looking into adding more bookmarking services such as Wink and ma.gnolia, with the ultimate goal of letting users integrate whatever services they want.

- We will be happy to assist users in their efforts to transition services.

Thank you for being such involved and passionate users of Flock. We feel privileged to have users like you. Please, keep the dialog open and feel free to e-mail me directly geoffrey at flock dot com if you have any questions, concerns, or recommendations as to what you would like to see in Flock.

IMO, it shows that they are de-emphasizing Shadows. At times, it takes upwards of a minute just to load the page, and (with FireBug enabled I'm able to see that) Flock is timing out numerous times "under the covers" when trying to sync. with Shadows.

Though Shadows is pretty decent, I'm sure del.icio.us (and others) will be more than able to "pick up the slack".

Cheers,

OK, sounds better. I hope that the transition from shadows to del.icio.us is working smoothly. I already have a del.icio.us account, maybe one day you can run those bookmark services parallel ;)

Yaye! Thanks for the explanation!

I was seriously concerned that Flock was just going to streamline itself with Yahoo products, which really concerns me because I tend to use a wide variety of services, based on what suits my individual needs. (And I believe most Flockstars do the same!)

I really appreciate the explanation, and I am SO glad to hear that the Flock team is looking into more social bookmarking services.

It's nothing against del.icio.us, but frankly, they just don't have the functionality of some of the other social bookmarking sites out there, and while del.icio.us covers my most-basic needs at the moment, I'd like to see some of the bookmarking sites with heavier funcionality added in.

As always, thanks for making a great product and keep up the great work!

Thanks so much, Geoffrey, for offering a bigger picture and explanation. I feel more comfortable with Flock's roadmap now that I have greater perspective on the matter.

I also really appreciate Flock stepping forward on behalf of its users to make transitioning an option, and a smooth one at that, if maintaining the Shadows service is not possible.

Thanks again for all your team does and I hope to be a Flockstar for a long time to come.

Flock on...

P.S. I want to put a vote in for BlinkList support too. Of the services that I have reviewed, it seems to be the most similar in functionality and interface to the Shadows service. Thanks for listening and your consideration!

Hi boyz! I download your free (tnx) browser and it's very cool but....what do u think about an italian version????? So u can multiply your fans ;-)

Hi,
the simpy.com service is pretty good. It's fast, has a great choice of features and an API. Quite good preconditions for integration in Flock it seems ;)

Anyone interested in having/doing the integration?
Cheers
Benjamin

Hi,
couldn't you integrate www.mister-wong.de ? This would be quite helpful for german users as it is always quite a mess trying to use tags in german AND english. I don't know about other countries, wether they have their "own" social bookmarks pages, but maybe you could integrate it in a localized version of flock???

ciao

Satixu:
Have a look at Simpy - it is available in German (and Italian and French and ...).

Has any one any suggestions on how to move my bookmmarks from shadows to another service (maybe del.ocio.us) for the time being as it is already supported in flock.
All my bookmarks ar ein IE or shadows so I currently have none available in flock, very frustrating for my prefered browsing.

I would love to see Simpy support added. I use it and like it alot. I wish Flock had this support for Simpy, if so I would use Flock more.

Nice article. Very helpful, thanks!!

Thanks so much, Geoffrey, for offering a bigger picture and explanation. I feel more comfortable with Flock's roadmap now that I have greater perspective on the matter.
