The recent surge of interest for the Flock browser has given us a lot of energy to make sure that we’re making the Flock experience available for as many people as possible around the world. As with most of our feature decisions, we looked at serving the largest audiences of users first, and so it was an easy decision for us to focus on our largest non-English speaking market of Germany to deliver our first ‘deeply localized’ build of Flock. The Social Web is exploding in Germany, and so it is natural that there are many fans of Flock interested in a more authentic, truly German experience. The Flock German edition is available here.

What does this mean? Well, our custom German experience is more than just ‘skin’ deep. The Flock DE edition ships with local content, media streams and service offerings from the most popular sites in Germany. (For example: sports content from sites like Sports1.de, and bundesliga.de rather than ESPN.com. News from Spiegel.de and FinancialTimes.de instead of CNN.com). Search services deliver German search results (for example, Yahoo.de, Amazon.de, eBay.de, Wikipedia.de, etc). Social sites like Facebook, Flickr and YouTube are defaulted to return the German experience.

We’re very proud of the German experience provided in the Flock DE version. We’re also looking forward to working with our dedicated volunteer localizers worldwide to continue rolling out similarly ‘deep localizations’ for other countries going forward. We plan to upgrade the DE edition to Flock 2 (built on the same technology as Firefox 3) as soon as our Flock 2 beta cycles are completed.

If you are a German speaking Flockstar and enjoy the German Flock experience, please help us spread the word and let people know that there is a much better way to experience the Web, with Flock.

Wow! That's great. I enjoy Flock for quite some time now. It is really eye candy and has plenty of great features that don't exist in any other browser.

Thanks for creating this German version :-D

awesome! i have to admit that i haven't used flock in a while, but a recent system crash and 2 beta changed my mind ... i'll stick with it, i guess! and as an *austrian* i am particularly keen on a german version as well!

Great news! I switched away from Flock a few month ago because of its crashes and the ff3 release. If you could integrate the most popular german social networks, like studiVZ and lokalisten into a ff3-version i would LOVE to switch back to flock!

Will there be a Russian version in the future, as well? For example, you could integrate with vkontakte.ru or with odnoklassniki.ru

but i'm from austria ;-/

Thanks for the kind words everyone!

@aleksod: We're definitely looking into what future full localizations will be, based on the # of Flock/Firefox users in the country, the population, and how Flock DE does!

@flo: No Austrian version at this time. Flock DE will still work for you, but the content will be focused on .de sites, not Austrian sites.

This is a great news for all German Flock users. Flock development team is always working hard to improve and add more and more features in Flock.

I wonder if a Hindi and Urdu version of Flock will be available in near future? :)

There are many Flock users from India and Pakistan who will want to see such version of Flock.

I am waiting for spanish version.

@angilina: If you're interested in being involved, we'd love to have you help us localize! No technical skills necessary. More info at http://developer.flock.com/wiki/L10n:Home_page.

@gratis: There is a normal Spanish-localized version of Flock at http://flock.com/versions. It's not *fully* localized like the DE edition in that it doesn't necessarily have locale-specific content, but the browser chrome itself is totally localized!

Hello "Evan Hamilton"

And thanks for the reply. I would love to help you with any thing that I can. I need a little help.

I go to this page

http://developer.flock.com/wiki/L10n:Teams_Currently_Forming#Urdu_.28UR.29

Then I see this

"Please, add your email so that we can contact you!"

I then click on "Urdu" but I don't any place where I can ad myself or my email address. How can I become a "Urdu" team member?

There seems to be something missing . . .

Take a look at this Screenshot, there is something missing!
I can not select the folder I want my favourite page to be saved in.

Peter

@angilina jetli: Click the small "edit" link on the right side of the Urdu entry. You'll probably have to set up an account, but then you can add your name. If you have any issues, let me know!

@PeterB: Looks like you've got a bug. Shoot an email to our support lead and she'll help you out: jen at flock dot com.

Thank You so much "Evan Hamilton" for the help.

I have created an account and now when I click on the Edit button, I go here
http://developer.flock.com/index.php?title=L10n:Teams_Currently_Forming&action=edit&section=13

Here I see this

"== Urdu (UR) ==
* [[User:Darwin|Basit]] - [[User_talk:Basit|Talk page]]"

Do I have to enter some kind of code here? I will really appreciate if you can help me with this.

Thank You

Hello angilina, I'm one of the localization leaders.

You only have to add your name and obfuscated email to the list under the Urdu (UR) header, for example:
Anglina Jetli

Please read
http://developer.flock.com/wiki/Introduction_to_Localization
and related pages for an intoduction, and mail me (dukebody at flock dot com) so I can give you more help and instructions personally.

Thanks for volunteering!

Just wanted to let you guys know that I'm LOVIN Flock!! I was a former Netscaper, and admit to being a little hesitant to download Flock. WOW!! I've been Flocking ever since!! I'm addicted to Flickr, and would have never heard of this site had it not been for Flock. I've had virtually no "issues" since migrating to Flock. A couple plugins don't work with some websites I visit, but this is a miniscule problem for my experience, and I'm sure it will be corrected over time. Keep up the GREAT work guys, and I will do everything I can to help promote Flock!!

@R.L.Woodson III: Not only do you have an awesome name, but you are an awesome Flockstar. So glad to hear you're enjoying Flock! Keep spreading the word and we'll keep making it better!

I'm a Chinese user of flock. I like it's design very much. thank you for your wonderful job.

Just installed Flock, liked the interface.

...so will the German -- or any other -- edition of Flock support GMX webmail, since a lot of Germans use it?

I hope there would be a Philippine edition of Flock browser. But still, the current edition is still nice.

Great! I have many German friends and now they can use the software as well. Many people don't know it but there are more the 80 million people living there!

Interaction design

i'm nota German speaking Flockstar.have family living in germany.

@Dominik: Not at this time, but hopefully we will be able to integrate locale-specific services in the future.
