Hi all,
on May 15, 10:33pm CEST, Flock stopped to show updates for my Twitter contacts (I can tell this exactly because that is the datetime of the last update). I still can update my Twitter status through Flock, and other (i.e. Facebook) status updates show up in my friends lifestream - interestingly enough, Twitter update of members of both service show up under Facebook, given that those members are sending their tweets to Facebook, too.
This started with Flock 1.1.2, and still persists with Flock 1.2b2.
Any suggestions? From a search in this forum, it looks as if nobody else is having this issue.
Any help will be greatly appreciated!
Konstantin

Hi Konstantin,
Thank you for letting us know. Could you please get Flock to forget your Twitter account and then go log in again? And say "Remember Account" when it asks. Does this fix the issue? Please let me know.
Hope to hear from you soon,

Okay, scratch that advice :) If you want to manually force the refresh, simply closing and opening your Sidebar again should do the trick. But we are going to look into the issue of the automatic update not working as it should, and hopefully get a fix. I will keep you all updated as I know more.
Thanks,

We have filed a bug here: Bugzilla
You can follow the progress of this fix by clicking on this link.
Unfortunately, since we cannot reproduce the issue ourselves, the only way we can really track down this bug is for you to send us your profile folder. I know this is a lot to ask, but I can assure you that once we have done the analysis we will delete the data from our systems completely. The only risk is that we cannot guarantee the complete safety of this data in case someone intercepts it along the way.
So you definitely do not have to do this, but if you decide you want to help out, you can upload your profile folder to an address I will send you. Please understand that in no way shape or form do you have to do this, and if you do, there is that bit of a risk. But if you decide to, please put a note/comment on the file that says ATTN: Bob, or something :) (If you know how, you can also zip the folder if you like). Please contact me directly by email if you're interested.
Thanks for your time,

I am having the same issue. Twitter in the People Sidebar says I last updated May 20th.
Christie
I have problem too. Facebook and YouTube work fine, just twitter does not. I can update my status, but all of my tweets are from 2 days ago. I am shut down flock and opened it again and I have opened and closed my people bar several times.
Jen Anderberg
Hi everyone,
Thanks so much for your patience with this issue. I've been talking with our QA team about this one and we're still unable to reproduce it ourselves.
However, we'd really like to clear this one up for you guys. Can someone possibly give me exact steps of what they are doing when this issue occurs?
If you could give us as much details as you possibly can, that will help us find the root of this problem.
Thanks so much,

I'm having the same problem - the Twitter sidebar has not updated in 3 days (since June 26th). Twitter had some big downtime between then and now, but appears to be back up. I can post new tweets via Flock, but my friends' posts aren't updating. I tried closing and opening the sidebar. That did not help. I tried to tell Flock to forget my Twitter account, but every time I do that, Flock locks up and I have to force quit it (Mac OS X Leopard). Logging out and back into Twitter doesn't help. I'm using Flock 1.2.1.

I started using flock 1.2 yesterday (my first use of flock). Twitter has never shown my friends tweets in the people sidebar.
I just updated to try the 2.0 beta and the only improvement? is that now I get a message in the sidebar that says "Lonely in here? Looks like you haven't added any friends yet." It does show me as being logged in and has the correct number of direct messages.
Pownce does show updates. Let me know if you want any more details. I really like Flock so far but I'm a little addicted to twitter.

Just want to chime in that I'm having the same problem on my Mac Pro that I'm running both OS X on and XP under Boot Camp. It happened under both OS X and XP with 1.2 and 2.0 beta. If you need further info, let me know. I didn't know how much I liked the Twitter sidebar until it stopped working :).
Angel Cuevas
Same here, it has been three days since twitter has updated in my sidebar.
Maggie Longshore
I am wondering if this problem is related to twitter changing their API last week. Something changed about the interpretation of the number of messages value it returns.
Evan Hamilton
Hey folks,
There is an issue with the Twitter API right now which is resulting in no friends showing up in the People sidebar. We'll continue to look into it and let you know as soon as we have more info.

Twitter is updating in the sidebar - very cool - first time I've seen it work.
I started using twitterFox in Firefox today but didn't like that it only showed a few messages at a time and blocked the window.
Thanks
Rob Markowitz
My sidebar is now updating again. Thanks to the Flock team for getting this squared away!

Just downloaded and started using Flock 1.2.3 yesterday. I have the same problem as specified above. My Twitter feed is not updating in the sidebar. Flock shows me the latest tweets when I first start it up but then doesnt update the feed after that.
Evan Hamilton
Hey Shane,
So, to clarify: Flock's People Sidebar shows all your Twitter friends, but their statuses aren't listed as having been updated since the first time it ran?

HI Evan,
As an example, today I started up Flock for the first time in 5 days. The only tweets its showing me are the ones from 5 days ago. It seems to be trying to update (it has a spinning circle next to the Twitter link up the top) but is failing.
Regards,
Shane

The latest update I have in either the sidebar or the My World page are from 16 hours ago. If I visit Twitter itself, the most recent post I see in Flock is the last-but-one of the second page of tweets. So Flock hasn't acknowledged the last 38 tweets.
I tried the 'manual' resync suggested above (open & close sidebar)—no effect.
I'm using 2.0b1 on Mac OS 10.5.4.
Evan Hamilton
Hey folks,
This is a very tricky bug that we haven't been able to hunt down yet. You *should* be able to fix this by logging out of Twitter, going to the Accounts & Services sidebar, forgetting your Twitter account, and then logging in again.
Obviously this is not an ideal flow, and we're certainly trying to kill this bug. We suspect this may have something to do with putting your computer to sleep with Flock open...did either of you do this?

Yeah, I do that all the time ;-) I'm not sure when I last shut the computer down, probably a couple of weeks ago, when there was a system update. I just put it to sleep in the evenings instead. Last time I closed Flock was when I downloaded the 2.0b1 update a few days ago.
Flock is so cool, it stays open all the time :-)

Hi.. I have started using Flock 2.0 beta , and still having issues with the twitter updates (actually pownce too by the looks).. I tried the "forget account", logged out, closed down, re-logged in etc, but still no joy.. my twitter sidebar still has the same content from about 6 hours ago...
Just wanted to let you guys know.. you are probably on it of course! so apologies for doubling up if you have this already.
mjharper
I tried the 'forget account' method too; I had no luck either.

Hey guys,
We have filed a bug regarding this issue here: Bugzilla.
The best case scenario would be if we could get someone's profile who is experiencing this bug. We've had a hard time consistently reproducing the issue ourselves. If you're interested, please email me directly and I will send you the necessary information.
Thanks so much,

Just downloaded Flock 1.2
Can't get the Twitter app to load in the people sidebar.
1. Click on the Twitter-click here in people sidebar
2. The twitter page loads.
3. Twitter Asks for login- done
4. Then orange bar loads at top of page: says must log out of twitter and log in again for the sidebar features in Flock to function. "button" in orange bar with "log out" is clicked. Nothing else happens after this.
5. Orange bar goes away & I'm NOT logged out of Twitter. Twitter is sitting there ready for a little tweet.
AND Nothing in the People sidebar has happened either.
6. Manually log out of twitter. Repeat process using People sidebar link. Twitter opens to log in page. Login done.
7. NO Orange bar at top of browser this time.
8. CLOSE Flock.
9. Re -open Flock. Go through steps and the same thing as 1-5 occurs again
(After closing Flock and repeating steps 1-3 the Orange bar at the top of the browser appears again, and ONLY after closing and re-opening the browser.)
However the orange bar goes away after selecting the log-out button in the orange bar. And NO option to log in again is given by Flock, which would seem to be the next expected command to activate the People Sidebar Function.
I've run the Facebook People sidebar. Works fine.
Gotta bug with what I've described? Hope my step-by-step review/experience is helpful in some way for you.
Thanks for any assistance!
Kara

For a couple days now, my twitter account in the peoples sidebar has only been updating the first two spots regularly and rest updates every 12 hours or so. I was running 2.0b1 and just now upgraded to 2.0b2 with the same issue.
Also, after making many twitter updates, my twitter status shows the update I made 18 hours ago. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
PS - Inserting a manual reload button into the peoples sidebar would be awesome.
Edem
Flock 2.0b2.
My twitter is kinda picky. I have a friend, who's updated her twitter twice today, but in the flock sidebar I can only see her twitter post from 26th May. Also, she has sent me a message through twitter, I have the notification - even though I've already read the message.
I have another friend, whose twitter updates are up to date on my sidebar.
Rick
Just FYI: My Twitter sidebar updates erratically. Flock 1.2.4 - just downloaded yesterday. It never shows nothing, it just doesn't update every X minutes as it should. Right now it is showing stuff 2 hours old. If I log out and login, its trying to update, but doesn't.
Jen Anderberg
Hi everyone,
I have confirmed with several developers at Flock that we know now this is not actually an issue on Flock's end. My understanding is that Twitter has an issue with their API that they're looking into right now.
The query we use to pull in friend and status data comes from a different place than what Twitter uses for the page. Twitter's having an issue synching those two. The pages are up-to-date, but the API data is not quite caught up.
Hopefully this will be fixed soon!

I don't know if this is really a twitter API issue. TwitterFox plugin for FireFox seems to be getting all the updates just fine. Maybe it is pulling the updates directly from the site or using some other API, dunno. but you should compare flock's twitter sidebar with the twitterfox mozilla plugin. For now I've resorted to using twitterfox in Flock.
Chintan
BTW. What I am seeing on the flock sidebar is something really strange.
1. My updates (I made through flock twitter bar) do not show up. My status is set to an update I made 19 hours ago.
2. The most recent update I see is 59 minutes ago (there are a few that are more recent than this.
3. The second update I see is 12 hours ago. Between the 59 minute ago post and 12 hours ago post there are several other posts from folks that are missing!!! How can this happen? Mystery of the Missing Twitts?
My twitter profile is on http://twitter.com/metamix

I'm getting the same issue of finicky updating. Right this second I have the most recent friend update displaying and then sporadic time frames for updates for other updates displaying from other friends. In addition, my displayed updates in the Flock sidebar are constantly behind by at least 10 hours.
I've had this problem for several weeks now going back to the previous release of Flock. Flickr, Pownce and Facebook seem to be updating correctly and in a timely fashion.
I'm running Flock 2.0b2 on Windows Vista Ultimate 64.
Twitter screen name is Notoriouslb3

My twitter bar does update but it doesn't fetch my avatar/photo thing.
It says "update your status" rather than my last Tweet which is what I would expect? Facebook, digg and pounce don't have this problem.
Is this normal or is something wrong?
P_l_a_n_B
Same here, I'm encountering the avatar/ photo problem as well as the not-updating problem. Do you still need the user profiles? Would be happy to oblige...
PS: Running Flock on Win - though as I gather that doesn't seem to make any difference.
Jen Anderberg
Hello,
For the avatar issue, did you guys recently change your avatar or is it an old one? Have you seen your avatar appear correctly before?
Thanks,

As for the Twitter update issues, we'd love your help in verifying this issue. The purpose of the following steps are to try determine whether Flock is not going out to get the latest information (1st bunch of steps). And/or is getting the latest information but not processing it correctly (2nd set of steps).
I followed these steps, and by doing so, it showed me that some of the issues are in fact on Twitter's end. One of our developers has emailed Twitter, hoping to get this fixed, but has had no reply yet. But we are still trying to determine which refresh issues are Flock issues and which ones are Twitter issues.
1. Enter the following into the url bar: chrome://flock/content/common/rdfconsole.xul
- this is a dump of the data flock uses
2. Search for "FL:Account" within this document
- the matching items will be all accounts that flock is tracking
3. Find the "FL:Account" item that represents your Twitter account
- for example FL:Account RDF:about="urn:flock:twitter:account:9098986"
NC:Name="jenanderberg"
4. Take note of the "nextRefresh" date
- for example FL:nextRefresh NC:parseType="Date" Tue Aug 12 23:04:25 2008 +961000 FL:nextRefresh (there will be some html tags in these, but the text will not show up if I post them in the forum)
5. Force refresh the People Sidebar by open and closing it
6. Repeat steps 1- 4
*7. Did the next Refresh date change?*
1. Login to Twitter account (wait for the refreshing indicator to finish spinning on the Sidebar)
2. Enter the following into the url bar: http://twitter.com/home
3. Note the most recent tweet for a friend
4. Enter the following into the url bar: https://twitter.com/statuses/friends.json
5. Save the file to a known location (i.e. Desktop)
6. Open the file
7. Look for the friend you observed in step 3
8. Search for the "status" within the information for this friend
*9. Does this status match the status displayed in the People Sidebar?*
*10. Does this status match the status for the friend displayed on the home page (step 2)?*
You can report these answers to to jen at flock dot com. I realize these steps look a little complicated, but it's the only way we can test to see if it's on our end or not. I apologize for not being able to give better news about a fix for this issue.
Thanks for your time and patience,

Hello everyone,
Unfortunately, Twitter hasn't made any progress on fixing their end of the issue. But luckily, our awesome Flock developers were able to figure out a workaround.
This fix will be in Flock 1.2.5, which will be out in the next few weeks.
Thanks for your patience with this issue!

That's great that you worked this out for Flock 1.2.x, but will there be an update to Beta 2 with this workaround?
Thanks!

Yes, I've just confirmed with a developer that it will be included in both!

How about the Beta 2. When will a new version with a fix for this problem be released?
Thanks :)

Hi Marius,
This fix will be out with the main release of Flock 2.0. Which will be officially released in the next few months. There may or may not be another Beta release before then, at this point we're not sure.
