FB People Bar

Hi guys, is it just me or does the People Tab not work again with FaceBook?

I log in in the usual manner and FB appears in my browser window as normal but the People Tab doesn't show my friends list anymore.

This happened a while back but was resolved with the 1.1.2 update.

Any ideas ?

Exactly the same problem here - I'm in the UK. Last time there were some country differences I believe.

Hi Folks,

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. Unfortunately Facebook changed something on us and we're scrambling to get a patch for Flock available (yes, it is going to be a long night for us). We'll let you know as soon as we have something ready. Thanks for your patience!

Thx,

Yes. The same is happening with me too..

Shouldn't service updates just be a small configuration file update and not an entire update to the entire application? That way new configuration files could easily be downloaded for each service as they are needed.

MrSandman,

Absolutely, and in most cases, that is all we need to do. Unfortunately the type of change Facebook made yesterday wasn't anticipated by us. Usually we use a technology that we developed called Web Detective, some details of that are here:

I think photobucket have also changed their login, as it isn't working for me or my friend

Hi Dominic,

It has been one of those days, :-). The two issues are completely unrelated but we should have a fix for Photobucket coming out very shortly as well.

I've updated to 1.1.4 and the FB people bar still doesn't work. *shrug*

Louie,

Unbelievably Facebook rolled out yet another change tonight. We were able to deploy a web detective fix to accomodate this change though. So
1. Select the Tools->Options menu, or, if on a mac, Flock->Preferences
2. From that dialog, select the Advanced pane
3. Inside this pane choose the "Update" tab
4. Click on the "Force Service Updates" button
5. Restart Flock
6. Enjoy your Facebook people again!

Thx,

As the original poster of this issue I just wanted to say thank you to you and your team for your quick response to this problem and keep up the great work. Flock is a great app and I'm a Flock evangelist to the graphic design Mac community I'm involved with and with sterling efforts on your part to solve these problems quickly that's not going to change any time soon.

Thanks again

I did this and it still doesn't work. Perhaps updates not being pushed out or server overburdened. Put the force services update doesn't work

Awesome! Working great for me with 1.1.4 and Mac. Thanks for the quick fix, I was missing this feature.

I was just wondering, why the hell does Facebook keep changing their log-in procedures and everything? Do they do that, just to prevent programs from accessing them? Or are they just being a bitch?

Mike Dosik

May 15, 2008 - 2:17pm

@Derek, I don't think it should matter but have you tried restarting Flock?

@Firipu, In Facebook's defense we are scraping the raw HTML of their login page and they probably think applications don't do this. If this was their API changing like this they would be hearing about it from every Facebook app developer and user. Login detection is a tricky beast. We'll continue to refine our technology to be more accommodating of ever changing websites.

Just wanted to report that I followed the steps listed and everything is working fine again. Thanks, Mike, for posting this information. Flock has become my new default browser after years of using Firefox. I have also managed to convince a few other users to give it a try after hearing my rave reviews. . .

At this stage in the game, your level of support is to be admired. The only thing I could suggest is making the fixes easier to find for less savvy surfers. Perhaps a note on Flock's homepage with a link to any fixes/workarounds?

Thanks again. . .

Cory

Er. . . disregard my hasty comment about the link on the homepage. I see it right where it should be under support. Great job guys!

Howdy,

I updated to flock 1.1.4, restarted everything and the FB sidebar still says I'm not logged into FB.

Just FYI.

Thanks!

I just updated to 1.1.4, restarted and FB sidebar did not work.

Then followed your guidelines to force service update through tools - still not working.

I have downloaded and installed 1.1.4, done the "force updates" option, restarted flock and restarted my computer and the FB sidebar STILL says I'm not logged into FB.

Any ideas? Anyone?
