yesterday my AVG anti virus scanner reported that the unistall file in the flock directory (C:\Program Files\Flock\uninst.exe) with a trojan called Generic10.VPD.
is this just a false hit or is Flock infected?

I got a similar message from AVG about a Generic10.VPD trojan horse. However, it pointed to a file residing in a profile from the 1.1 beta that hasn't been used in at least a month. If you search for Generic10.VPD online, you'll see several others saying this trojan horse was detected in non-Flock executables as well.
I'm of the opinion that it's just a false positive. In my case I deleted the profile as it wasn't going to be used.
I would check again in a day or two, after you get another AVG virus profile update or two, and see if AVG complains about the file again.

Hey folks,
We do not believe that this is actually a virus, but we are focusing all our resources on hunting down the issue at this time. We'll let you know as soon as we do!

Hi Guys,
Probably a false positive like Chris mentioned but we'll double check our systems to make sure nothing suspicious has been installed. I'll also try reaching out to AVG.
Thx,
Mike

Same thing here
2 instances of trojan Generic10.PVD in the uninstall.exe and the install exe
using AVG too.

I just installed a new version of Windows XP. When I downloaded Flock eco AVG stopped it cold and I couldn't install it. I went into msconfig and kept AVG from starting with Windows but I still can't install Flock eco. It says "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have appropriate priveleges to access the item." Interesting!

same problem with AVG after yesterday's update. After checking around, it appears there are many instances that started yesterday with the generic10.vpd being found on several different programs in the uninstaller. It sounds like a false positive because otherwise I can't find any info about this "Trojan".

To test the F/P theory, I updated my AVG and restored the files from the vault it originally detected as containing Trojan Horse Generic10.VPD; performed another scan and AVG found nothing. I hope this means AVG has resolved the issue on their end. If anyone has more info on the Generic10.VPD, please post

Hi all,
Our investigations shows that there is a virus with a signature very similiar to lzma compression code from NSIS Installer version 2.16.
So, in English, the code that "builds" the Flock installer is called NSIS (Nullsoft Scriptable Install System). This is pretty standard code that alot of products use but the version that Flock is using, 2.16, happens to create installers with a similar signature that AVG (and Clamshell) use to determine if a virus is present. We'll be updating our build machines very soon.

I have uninstall the Flock browser and reinstall the Flock and ran the check again with AVG and Kaspersky and as the Flock folks said, its a false positive. Thats a relief to hear from here too, thanks.

Hi Folks,
Can anyone else confirm what rainbowgurl and Kristy are seeing that AVG has indeed updated their Anti Virus rules. We're not seeing it either here at Flock but I'd like to make sure before we do a blog post.

I can't confirm anything about AVG because I'm not running it right now, but I finally got Flock eco to install again, it was my OS settings preventing it. Flock eco is my favorite browser on the planet! (as I write this from Opera usb, lol). As far as AVG goes, I've been having problems with them lately. AVG 8 wouldn't update, so I went back to 7.5. I've had many false positives from AVG, so don't take it too hard.

i just installed flock and when i open the browser it seems to keep my hard drive and cpu usage pegged indefinitly, anyone else seeing this issue?
MaMaladeSkyze
My AVG has also detected this virus. I only installed Flock this week and the trojan is only showing on Flog programs.
Do I need to uninstall Flock and reinstall it?

@ greg:
Thanks for letting us know. Flock does have a lot going on because it's doing so much for you! But I was also wondering what kind of operating system you're on, and what RAM and CPU that you have?
Please email me directly at jen at flock dot com and we can go from there to fix up this issue!
Thanks,

I installed the free version of AVG after having a hell of problem getting SystemSuite 8 Pro to work properly with Windows Vista, (gave up in the end and got my money back) AVG reported I had a Trojan horse Generic10.VPD in Total Recorder Design Tool, I did not believe it at the time and don't believe now, I think it is a problem with AVG reading patterns incorrectly.
