STOP the popups

Stop all of the popups that I get while I'm browsing. I am sick and tired of it and will never download your product.

Hello,

First of all, spamming our forums is extremely rude to both our staff and to our community. Please be more considerate if you want people to help you.

Second, the pop-up you are seeing was activated by Netscape/AOL, NOT Flock, because Netscape/AOL is ceasing support of the Netscape browser. This means that Netscape will be susceptible to malicious attacks, which is why they are so insistent that you get a new browser. They have recommended Flock as a replacement, but if you don't like Flock you can download Firefox, Internet Explorer, Safari or Opera. They just want you to be safe. You can see their blog post on this subject on their blog.

You CAN turn off this popup, but we do not recommend continuing to use Netscape; you will be vulnerable to malicious attacks. To disable, follow these instructions:

-- In Netscape, choose Tools -> Extensions
-- select the "Netscape migrator" extension
-- choose uninstall
-- restart the browser

Please do not spam my forums again.

Hi Evan,

I was sent to this article by another user, but it helped so thats a good thing. Sorry to see someone was being rude like that though. It happens all too often in the forums.

In any case I thought maybe you could point me in the right direction here. Actually now that I have the nag screen fixed, I really have the annoying part of the problem taken care of. The root of the problem though is the printing side of it. In fact if i could solve that I wouldn't have to be forced to use NS 8.1. It is the only browser that works for my printing scenerio though (or IE 6.X). Maybe take a few minutes to look at my entries - I think I described it pretty well. If not then thanks anyway for your time. I'll be sending this to FireFox Support as well, just for kicks...I dont expect to find someone who can fix it at this point. I wish I still worked at CA where I had programmers at my cube all the time!

Hey it_tek,

Thanks for the polite response.

We inherit all the printing stuff we have from Firefox, who's platform we're built off of. We try to avoid changing that code in order to keep consistency between the products. Additionally, printing it not really a focus in Flock. Finally, we'll be updating to the Firefox3 codebase later this year, which will probably involve new code in this area.

In other words, I am very sorry about your issue but we simply don't have the resources to make this a priority. I would suggest bringing the issue up with Firefox/Mozilla.

Sigh... anonymous commenter's =P

On the pop-ups topics, is there any way to stop the annoying de.licio.us pop-up? Haha, no complaints apart from that

Thanks
Josh

Hey josh,

Thanks for the sympathy. :)

We have fixed that (quite annoying) pop-up error in the 1.2 general release. You can get it right here from flock.com, and auto-updates will go out shortly.
