Favorites in alphabetical order

Hi everyone,

How is it that you cannot put your favorites in alphabetical order from your favorites list by right clicking, then clicking on sort as you do in other browsers? I have tried sorting my favorites from the manager and while it shorts them in the manager the favorites list is still in a unsorted mess and I dislike that.

Is there a way to sort the favorites list so that they appear in order? i have tried about everything I know and nothing works.

Thanks
Ivan

Well I am surprised no one has comment on this. Does not anyone else notice that the favorites menu's do not auto sort as other browsers do?

Hey Ivan,

You can sort by title within the Favorites Manager. However, this feature doesn't appear to be working in Firefox OR Flock. Once it's fixed in Firefox, we can look at some other ways to surface it.

OK good enough for me, all good things come in time, thanks for the reply, much appreciated. I love the browser and I have to say (and the Firefox people would hang me for saying it) I like Flock a great deal better than Firefox, but yet I use that also. Again, thanks....

Hey folks,

Sorry for all the confusion in this thread, I didn't really understand the situation until today.

Here is how things work in Firefox3 and will work in Firefox3-based Flock:

-You can sort bookmarks/favorites in a folder by name
-In the favorites/bookmarks manager you can sort all bookmarks/favorites by name, but this WILL NOT reflect in the sidebar.

Firefox's point with this is that, if you have spent a lot of time organizing your bookmarks/favorites just so, you don't want to lose that organization just because you sort by name. So, they only allow it for folders or temporarily via the Favorites/Bookmarks manager.

Flock, once based on Firefox3, will reflect this. We don't want to make a drastic change to favorites behavior because this will be very confusing for the many people coming to Flock from Firefox. We need to keep things consistent, or there will be another forum thread full of angry people who spent a bunch of time organizing their favorites and then got their order screwed up just because of one sort.

I understand that this is a pain point for people, and I wish we could do something about it; however, I can see the logic of their stance and remaining consistent with them in this area probably makes sense. If you're still frustrated by this, I suggest you point your suggestions towards Mozilla and try to get them to add this to Firefox.

Sorry again about the confusion!

I completely agree with Firefox's idea and disagree with LakotaGhost. Please don't do irreversible changes just by clicking on a column in the bookmark manager.

re: Favorites
sorry to disagree .... but anyone who has been using browsers for any length of time, sorts their FAVORITES "alphabetically", which makes everything so much simpler to find; this is a major drawback with FLOCK, which I love and is my main browser otherwise !!

Pierre,
Don't make peremptory assumptions here. Not ANYONE does that. I'm the proof of the contrary, as well as thousands and even millions of Firefox users that are happy their bookmarks are stored in the order they put.

Why don't you just use extensions when you have a specific need? Like Sort Bookmarks: http://forum.addonsmirror.net/index.php?showtopic=102
