location bar

1 - The Location bar does not remember what is in my favorites/bookmarks for automatic filling out of url.
This is probably my biggest issue with Flock at this moment, as much as I like to stick to one browser and was pretty much ready to stop using safari, this one issue becomes a annoying when I have to type the full url always.

1a - I have it set to keep the cashe clean and cookies, and have 'exceptions' which doesnt seem to work after I restart the computer and Flock...I once again am faced with typing in url. - now if it new my favorites/bookmarks this wouldnt be an issue.

note: i.e. in Safari I keep private browsing on and dump the cashe, etc evertime I close it down. (My computer is slow as it is and gets clogged up fast.) Yet it has no problem with auto filling my url.

2 - passwords.
None of them are remembered. Well they are, but I have to log in each time even when I tell the site to remember me.

note: in safari, even with me manually deleting cache and safari files, it still remembers my log in to sites that I log into before hitting private browsing.

3 - I gave my speed results on my computer for firefox, safari, and flock...flock was the slowest, but then again this isnt the main issue.

Point is when Im browing all day the 1000s of sites I have bookmarked, it gets a pain everytime I quite flock to have to retype the whole thing. I usually just shut flock down and go to safari...or leave flock open and only use RSS feeds, which is done nicely.

4) speaking of RSS feeds, is there not a place to set how often you want them to be checked...didnt see it in preferences...

Peace

Hello,

Thanks for the feedback!

1) We don't do this because we have the search box to the right of the address bar. This searches your history and favorites as well as the web. That said, we may be moving this functionality to the address bar when we integrate the FF3 code, so that may be the solution for you.

2. The site is not going to *keep* you logged in; that would be a privacy issue. Flock will remember your info so all you have to do is hit "log in", but it's not going to automatically log in. We're unlikely to do this.

3. I'm sorry Flock is running slower for you; we have more preloaded content than other browsers. We're always working to make Flock performance better and have landed many performance improvements in the past. 1.1 is much better than 0.9 and 0.7, and we hope to continue this improvement. Additionally, we'll be absorbing the Firefox3 codebase, which is much more optomized.

4. We will likely be adding this option in the near future.

I may have not communicated clearly.

Just dealing with issue one at the moment, the location bar.
I dont see the relevance in the search bar to the right as you mentioned...apple safari has the same.

What I mean is when I go to type: www.fl....
the computer automatically knows what is in my bookmarks and begins to give choices there in the location bar.

Again, why search? The point is in the ease of not having to always type: www.flock.com, etc. (If I have it booked marked.)

So I feel I must have miscommunicated.
I do believe Internet Explorer (of course I dont use it on mac) but it auto populates the address bar with your bookmarks...though safaris is smoother as it automatically changes as you type...you know like how spotlight works.

Again, for speed and with as much as I browse, you would be amazed at how time I save and I take it for granted I suppose with safari. I guess I thought it was a natural element to all web browsers.

As for the 2nd...
Why have the button saying remember me on the computer if it wont remember you? That is a bit confusing. And it is a bit of a nuisance as this happens with evertime I quite the web browser.

3. Again as for speed, that isnt my primary focus...#1 truly is.
If you can get that to work like Safari, I doubt I would use safari again...number 2 is pretty close. And as for #3, of course we would all like faster browsers...but again Im more affected by this due to my very old, low spec, computer and low bandwidth.

Your browser is really cool with the RSS features, as mentioned.
I have already passed on the info about flock and a former co-worker of mine at wordrpress (who gets quite a bit of hits) has already posted about it.

Anyway...

Peace

Hey dAlen,

To your first point: Internet Explorer does not do this. Most web browsers only search your history. I mentioned our search because it auto-suggests favorites that match what you're typing, giving the functionality you seek. As I said, this functionality will probably be moved to the address bar in Firefox3-based Flock, which should solve your issue.

2. That's how web browsers and webpages work, it's for your security. If there is a browser that doesn't do this, let me know.

Thanks for the kind words and the discussion!

Hello Evan,

Thanks for the response.

As for the autofill, I suppose it is only safari that does what I mentioned in the location bar - again I took it for granted that this was common place.
If indeed it does come to firefox 3 based flock that would be lovely indeed.

As for the 2nd.
I may not be clarifying myself...or perhaps its just another Safari thing.

When I click remember who I am, I dont have to log in at all upon shutdown and restart on my computer. So safari is one browser who does this.

If you select private browsing it wont do this.
But if you select private browsing after doing this and then empty the cache it will still remember...(unless you go into the main cache directory of the computer).

Then after a month or so you will be asked to log in again...I suppose the websites dump that you were logged in.

So your basically saying this is a bug with safari? (genuinely curious as you say its not secure). Again, never thought twice about it because its just a natural thing. Click "remember me" and it remembers.

Thanks again.

I may have forgot to ask, but is there a way to set the frequency of how often RSS feeds are checked? (again, using safari as a reference as it has been my main browser, this is something in the preference pains...just didnt see it in flocks.)

Peace
dAlen

Hey dAlen,

2) I misunderstood, I think. You're talking about the actual checkbox with the PAGE (such as the Gmail login page), not the browser? This should work in Flock, and if it doesn't let me know.

Feed refresh: No option at this time, but we will be adding a refresh button and eventually adding refresh interval settings for all these features.

I understand there is no options to set/change feed refresh interval, but what is the current default?

thx,
Brian.

Hey Brian,

I believe that the feeds refresh every hour. The refresh button should be coming later this year.

Just wanted to update this thread to say that Feeds Refresh is available in Flock 2. You can get the Flock 2 beta at www.flock.com/beta/download.
