I just recently installed Flock, transferring my favorites, bookmarks, passwords, etc. from Netscape 8.1.3. When going to a site that requires a password on Flock, my passwords don't auto-fill as they did with Netscape. On Flock's menu bar, under Tools, I clicked "Options," and then the "Security" tab, to find a database of all my imported passwords. Question is, why won't they auto-fill? Is there some button I have to push to make Flock do this by default?

Hello,
Thanks for the feedback. I've heard this from a few folks and I'm still trying to understand exactly what is happening.
If you go to a site that you saved a password for in Netscape 8 and you login manually with Flock, do you get a dialog box prompting you to remember your password?

Sometimes. I've tried this at several sites, and statistics are kinda hit-and-miss; sometimes the passwords fill in, sometimes they don't. For instance, I just went to Amazon.com, and tried to access my account. I had to manually fill in my email address and password. I shouldn't have to do this. After I did that, a dialog box did ask me if I wanted to have it remember the password, so at least that works. When I signed out of Amazon, then returned and logged in, the password filled. Good, right? At another site I went to, I had to enter my password and account name manually. NO dialog box appeared to ask if I wanted to save the password. Once I logged in, I logged out, came back again, and guess what? Still had to enter my account name and password, and still no dialog box asking me to save this information.
Related to this problem I've seen on all sites I've tested, both the successful (password fills in) and unsuccessful (password doesn't fill in) is that l have to manually click "log in" or "sign in" or whatever the site says. I'd like the password fill-in to automatically log me in.
Beyond those problems, if someone can tell me (A) how to open Favorites in NEW tabs without holding down anything or clicking additional buttons, (B) how to open Favorites in tabs to the right of my current operating tab, and not a new tab to the far right of everything else, I'd appreciate it.

Me again. And (C) how to open pop-ups that result from clicking links as Tabs (to the right of the current open tab) rather than in a new window. That'd make me happy.

I got the same problem with auto-fill function in flock, too. There is no auto-fill function. Although flock keeps all the password from Netscape but it won't do anything to the site. True that after manually sign in, flock remembers the password but it's just like Internet Explorer. The problem is, for example, I have 2 gmail accounts and must check on both. With Netscape there are 2 passcards for 2 accounts and I can easily switch but there is no way to save 2 passwords for 2 accounts in gmail.
Also, what is the use of importing password if you have to manually log in? Shouldn't flock recognize the page and auto-fill in the password? Anyway, I'm still using Netscape most of the time.
However, there is a nice part in flock is it can show me the password which Netscape won't. Now I can see the password instead of * or a dot like in Netscape in case I forgot

I am having the same problem with passwords and auto-fill. All of my passwords were imported, but they won't fill. Is there any setting that will allow auto-fill or does flock just not have this capability. This is one of the BEST features of Netscape, and if this can't be provided, flock is a giant step backwards.
Evan Hamilton
Hey folks,
Thanks for the clarity. It appears that, because of Netscape8's unique form fill feature, the passwords didn't get imported in quite the way we had hoped.
As "Your Name" has experienced, Flock will offer to remember your password when you manually enter it. This is about as far as the Flock/Firefox architecture goes in terms of form filling.
If you'd like some more powerful form fill technology, I'd recommend an extension called Sxipper, available at www.sxip.com. Sxipper is a third-party extension that will install right into Flock and provide a lot of the form-filling capability you seek. This is not officially endorsed by Flock, just a personal suggestion. Give it a try, and please let me know if this doesn't do the trick.
On to the other questions:
A) Not possible right now, but we plan to add this functionality in the near future. We will try to replicate Netscape 8's great options in this department.
B) Also not an option, though we may add this as well.
C) Needing some clarity here...you're wanting to open popups (small, popup website boxes) in a tab?
Let me know if I can be of any further assistance in making your transition easier!

Hi. Originator of the post, back at you. Thanks for your monitoring of this topic and feedback, as well as future plans for upcoming versions.
You're curious what I mean when I say I want to open pop-ups in tabs and not separate windows. As you know, there are many sites that, if you click on a certain link, a smaller window will appear. This is not a link per se, meaning you don't go to another site. It's more of a command to a site that you want to open a pop-up. Occasionally, the involuntary pop-ups that you don't click, like the ones that are ads for Netflix or Classmates.com will also appear when they slip through the pop-up protection. Regardless, in Netscape, you could choose to have all pop-ups opened in another tab. That is what I'm talking about.

I can not have my passwords filled automaticly and they were saposably imported. I can not find how to get to my email. I am going back to netscape.
Also Where are the tabs?
Rick
I am not a social animal and won't give two hoots for "My World", blogs, and all the other crap this browser has. My computer is a tool. I use the tool for business. This requires me to log in to many secure sites. The evolution of internet security has made it impossible to remember all my logins and passwords. Netscape 8.1 did this for me very well. The inability of Flock to seamlessly import and use my logins and passwords from Netscape makes Flock more trouble than it is worth. I am gonna make like a shepherd and get the Flock outta here!!!!!
KLS
My situation is the same as Rick's. Also, the sites that are https: do not offer to save my logins and passwords. The login/password feature worked on those sites at Netscape.

I just came over from Net 8.1.3 import freezes and doesn't import all bookmarks.
I exported them then but now have no passwords.
Why the freeze? How to fix it/

@Your Name: Unfortunately, it's unlikely that we're going to add this, oftentimes there are very good reasons for a site wanting to have something in a pop-up box. You *may* be able to find an extension that does this on addons.mozilla.org.
@Harvey: See my comments above about form-filling in Flock vs Netscape. As for mail, what kind of mail do you use? It should have a webpage you can access it at. Lastly, tabs only appear when you open them. You can right-click a link and choose "open in new tab", or you can go to File>New Tab.
@Rick: If you read my above comments you would understand that Flock simply does not have the form-fill features you're used to. Neither does any other mainstream browser on the market. I have suggested Sxipper, an extension for Flock and Firefox, as a way to get this functionality. I'm sorry you don't like Flock, but please read the thread before you comment.
@KLS: As I said above, swing by www.sxipper.com and get the Sxipper extension. This will give you the functionality you desire.
@Stef: See above.

I have hoped since I was earged to upgrade I could still use my passwords from Netscape. I used from fill so I didn't have to remember my passwords now I don't have half of them. FLOCK REALLY SUCKS
Evan Hamilton
Hey Your Name,
I'm sorry that you are upset, but if you read my comments you can find out how to install a form-fill extension in Flock.
For the record, you should never entrust all your passwords to a piece of software, no matter how much you trust it. Back them up somewhere safe!

Just noticed something that is somewhat of a security risk involving passwords. I looked up under your Options-->Security menu that there is an option to see your passwords. I think this is a BIG mistake. If my house is robbed and my computer is stolen, all that needs to take place is for the robbers to go to this menu and they will find all my bank account passwords and clean out my bank accounts too. Netscape was smarter about this: instead of displaying the characters of a password, they just used ****, That way if my computer is stolen it's still not possible to track down my passwords to my banking (and other sensitive) information. In my opinion displaying these passwords is a HUGE security risk. If people cannot remember their passwords and they store them in a list on their computer anyway, then that's a personal risk they are willing to take. But to enforce having passwords easily visible on someone's computer makes your browser too risky to use in this way for some users, including myself.

I am very disappointed that I cannot use the feature that Netscape has to auto-fill in my logins/passwords. I think it was/is very deceptive of Flock to say that it has all the features of Netscape when it does not. It's even more confusing because it asks you, when you are installing it, whether you want passwords brought over. Why would you offer that option if it's useless? I'm going back to using Netscape until you get your act together.
Your Name I I
I am just about to migrate over to Flock, but I have the same issue as "your name". Evan, you said to back up my passwords. How ? Especially if I don't know what half of my passwords are?? Help.
Your Name
So what exactly is the password manager for in Flock? I tried your recommended but not sponsored solution—the dog program—it didn't work either. How can a program fail to insert passwords into text-fields? With all the different panes (gmail, youtube, facebook, etc...) how can you not include password managers that works!? I really thought this was a good program and planned to tell my friends about it, but now I intend to bad-mouth it... As far as I am concerned this is just one-of-many P.O.S. browser wannabes that look great but fail when it comes to the most basic everyday-mundane function.
Bye-bye Flock
Evan Hamilton
Hey folks,
I'm sorry to hear that some of your passwords were not imported. Unfortunately, Netscape is an old technology and we were unable to successfully port all passwords.
What is Flock's password feature? When you enter a login/password Flock will offer to remember if. If you have remembered a login/password with Flock, you will still have to click the login button. Remembering a password is different from automatically logging in. This is the same functionality that Firefox has, and is the standard for browsers.
We never claimed that Flock had all the features that Netscape does, and from the start I have been clear that we do not have form-fill. Sxipper provides a great alternative, and I have spoken to many many satisfied Netscape-to-Flock converts who are using Sxipper. I'm sorry to hear that it didn't work for the last commenter, but this is not normal behavior. A bug must have been encountered.
For those of you seeking to get your passwords out of Netscape, I'm afraid I don't have an answer for you. You can try running the importer again (File>Import).

Everything I read before switching to Fluck touted it as being a virtual duplicate of Netscape and the only way to port these features. Now the word is that Fluck did not even know what the features were that they were claiming to mimic. It looks like they are getting the enrollment that they want and that the enrollees are getting flocked.

As you can see from the popup featured in that blog post, we claimed that Flock was "an evolution of the same technology that Netscape was built upon." This is true. We never claimed that you would get every feature Netscape has. I'm sorry you're disappointed with Flock, and I'd be happy to work with you to try to make Flock as good an experience as possible for you. However, making claims about our advertising will get us nowhere.

I get the same problem.
Pages that FIREFOX would auto fill in username and password will no do the same in Flock.
Strangely, if I turn off remember password, then click on a username box, WILL fill it in, but not the password, turn on remember password and flock does nothing again.
Jen Anderberg
Hi Ian,
Thank you for letting us know. You're right, this issue should not be occurring. I was hoping you could try Flock with a fresh profile and see if this is still a problem. Perhaps the migration from Netscape caused a bit of a corruption in your profile folder.
You can try a fresh profile by just moving your profile folder onto your Desktop (instructions to find the folder are here). Keep in mind Flock has to be closed to be able to do this. Once this is done, reboot Flock and let me know if the issue is still occurring.
Hope to hear back from you soon. My apologies for any inconveniences this has caused.
Thanks for your patience,

Hi Jen, actually this was the same from a Fresh install of Flock.
I then tried importing the settings from FIREFOX, note not Netscape.
However, I'll try the fresh profile, and see how I go.
Ian Watkinson
Hi Jen, if you do this, you get this problem
https://extensions.flock.com/node/61755
Close Flock. A copy of Flock is already open
So perhaps the moving profile instructions need updating?
Currently, I have a blahblah.default folder on my desktop as requested, but no working flock.
