Facebook Logs In, But Does Not Load Friends in Sidebar

Running Flock 1.0 RC3 on a Powerbook G4, OS X 10.4.10.

I have successfully added my Facebook account to my sidebar, and it shows me as logged in, but it seems that no matter what I do, or how many times I might "forget" the account and let Flock re-learn it, it never wants to list my friends in the sidebar.

Any thoughts?

I am having this problem too. I love the premise of this browser and I'm trying hard to use it and get used to it, but it's still not very intuitive and has a lot of bugs. I really want to use it though, so please help. Thanks for the service!

It works now! I didn't do anything. Just closed the People sidebar for a while and opened it again just now to check and all my friends loaded, so thanks.

Unfortunately, I am still having this problem. It seems that pretty much all of the other features are working with the people sidebar, but it never imports my friends. Perhaps I will trash all of my preferences, and start with a clean profile from the ground up... I'll let you know what happens.

I'm happy you got it running Carolina!

Ok... It worked. I trashed my profile and set up Flock from scratch, and now my people sidebar loads my Facebook friends just fine. Don't know what happened there, but I suppose it had something to do with the fact that I've downloaded about 25 alphas, betas and nightly builds over the last year or so... perhaps things got wacky in the process...

Glad you got this working OK. So you know, we had a bug in RC3 that interfered with the refreshing of the People sidebar, sometimes resulting in a blank sidebar being shown (i.e. no friends listed). This usually happened right after initial friend import, and after the first refresh it went away. Thanks to some help from users on this forum we have a fix that will be in the 1.0 release...

So, thanks for your help!

Hi
I'm running the full release 1.0 (was running RC3) on a Mac (os/x 10.4) and the people sidebar is not so hot on refreshing status messages from friends on eg Facebook.
Is there a way of forcing or refresh? How often is a refresh supposed to occur?
My Flock browser satys open for maybe days on end - i donlt want to have to clode the app and open it again just to get fresh status updates!
thanks
tony

I am having the same problem on release 1.0(never ran RC3) on WinXP

It seems like the feed updater for status updates is not being fetched if the app is open.

Any solutions?

I can't seem to get it to work. I have updated all along the way... so maybe that's the ;roblem?

How can I get a fresh install of FLock, free of the legacy issues?

Fflock says "you are not logged in" regarding facebook. Upon logging in, Flock still says I am not logged in. The people list doesn't load. This is with the 1.1 beta.

Flock stopped updating the people sidebar after I switched to German as default language. It told me that I was not logged in. After switching back to English the people sidebar worked again. My flock version is 1.09. Changes to your facebook profile can prevent the ppl sidebar from working. Hope this helps.

Hey Dom,

I'm assuming you changed to the German version of Facebook? Likely we don't support that yet, though we definitely want to take a look at it.

YouTube and Flickr loads fine in the People's bar but Facebook will not. Running Vista Ultimate SP1 RTM. And apps (too many to mention) Any known issues here? Flock ver. 1.1
Preciate any clues because that is the main reason I use Flock at the moment.

I am running Ubuntu7.10 and have just downloaded Flock. Started it by launching the 'Flock' file after decompressing.

Facebook always shows me logged out in the Accounts and Services as well as not showing my friends. The media stream tells me "you have reached the request limit for facebook. Please try again shortly"

All my other accounts seem to be working but then I don't have friends outside of facebook.

I have loaded up Flock 1.1 and then i open the people side bar and login to Facebook as i do each and every morning. Each day all my friends have appeared as i log into facebook without a hitch. This morning however, i am logged into Facebook, but my people sidebar says that i am not. I am on XP SP2. Any ideas?

i have the same problem. although i am logged into facebook and i have clicked: remember account to load it to people's sidebar it wont work. in the sidebar it still shows as if I am being offline. All other applications work (Youtube, Flickr, Wordpress, google etc.). I was using the beta version before this and there it was working just fine. What can i do now??? Really would love to use my facebook account on the people's sidebar!

I have the same problem.

I can log in to Facebook through the web browser as normal. Flock will detect that I have logged in and automatically add my Facebook account to the sidebar. But it doesn't register as logged in on the sidebar, so my friends don't show up there.

I've tried telling Flock to "forget account" and then setting it up again.
I've tried re-starting Flock.
I've tried disabling all add-ons.
I've tried deleting my profile folder and starting again from scratch.
Nothing seems to work.

I'm using the English version of Flock v1.1 on OS X v10.4.11.

Hope this info helps.

Is this a Facebook issue, or is it related to the latest security update from Apple? That seems to correspond with the start of the Facebook issue as well as del.icio.us telling me i'm not logged in. Any Windows users having yhis issue?

Devin

March 28, 2008 - 7:42am

Sorry. Just checked on a new install of Flash on XP and it's the same issue. I guess it is a Facebook thing. I'm still getting a del.icio.us login error.

Hey folks,

Thanks to a very helpful Flockstar, we've hunted down the issue. We're working on a fix at this very moment. In the meantime, you may be able to get this working again by going to Facebook and clicking the "privacy" link on the upper right of the page.

Thanks to everyone for your help identifying this issue and for being so patient!

sorry, but which privacy settings would bring flock back to being able to see I'm logged in? there are a number of options in there, not sure which ones will help

Hey Your Name,

Just clicking "privacy" (or "accounts" in some cases) should fix the problem. Does it not?

Hey Folks,

We believe that Flock 1.1.1 should fix this bug. Before we roll out auto-updates, could you all help us out by downloading 1.1.1 from flock.com (just click the download button in the upper right) and installing it? It will keep all your settings, just like a normal upgrade. Please let us know what the results are!

Thanks,

This started happening for me from this morning (14th May). I'm running 1.1.2 on WinXP.

Even though I cleared Facebook account info from Flock and also "deauthorized" the Flock application from facebook side (through privacy options) and re-logging into Facebook I can't get Facebook friends info to show on sidebar any longer. Flock always shows that I am offline from Facebook even though I am logged in. Also, Flock doesn't appear into authorized applications in the privacy page anymore regardless how many times I try to log in.

Same problem for me, the people bar just stopped working this morning and won't log into Facebook. Oddly, Facebook seems to say that Flock IS logged in on the privacy > applications page. I'm also running 1.1.2 on WinXP.

Great social networking browser, too many functionalities to list. A ray of shining hope for primarily non mac users, but of use to mac users as well.

Please let me know when the sidebar issues is resolved.

I have the issue that flock doesn't show my friend list although logged in to Facebook. After investigating, I found out that Flock is holding a list of XPath in the C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\Flock\Browser\Profiles\[randomId]default\detect\facebook.xml which expects among others a <a href="...">logout</a> in the div section named "navigator" to identify the user is logged in. IF your account on Facebook (not Flock) is NOT US (i.e. french) you will now have the <a href="...">[something_else_than_logout]</a>. Which therefore cannot make Flock believe you are logged in, and therefore show your buddy list on the left...

Hey Philippe,

Can you download Flock 1.1.4? This has a fix for the Facebook issue and will hopefully fix yours. If it doesn't, please let us know and we will look into it!

I'm having the same problem. I've tried it in both 1.1.4 and in 1.2. I can see it refreshing when I've checked messages, but doesn't display friends. I've clicked "Forget Account" and went through the process over again. It's still not working. I'm running Mac OS 10.5.2.
If it helps, I started out with 1.1.2 which I downloaded sometime ago but didn't have time to get into. I tried set up 1.1.2 today, saw that I needed 1.1.4, had the issue, hoped that 1.2 would fix it but I'm still getting the same problem. So that's where I am.

Ok, it's back. It's an on and off thing and I can't figure out what it's doing to come and go. Sometimes it refreshes and goes away. It will refresh a number of times in between (I haven't been able to count or anything). Then it will suddenly return. I've tried relogging in, I've tried clicking the logo (both in Flock and on the webpage) to try reloading, no dice. If you have an ideas, let me know.

Hey Paul,

This is very weird. I think the next thing I would recommend for you to try, would be a fresh profile. At least try moving it to your desktop (with Flock closed), and then restarting Flock, so it starts with a fresh profile folder. Let me know if this helps the issue.

I think I figured it out. It only happens at work, so it may be a firewall issue. I've never had the problem at home. Once in a while, it gets through at work, but that's the only place it happens. Does that make any sense to you all?

Jen Anderberg

June 24, 2008 - 3:23pm

Hey Paul,

Yeah, for sure that makes sense. Do you know what kind of firewall software or anti-virus software they have running at work?

Thanks for getting back to us.
