Twitter/ Jaiku/ Tumblr/ Box.net/ Picasa/ community UI?

You can't call Flock a social browser if it doesn't connect up with a service like Twitter, Jaiku, Pownce, Tumblr. The mini/micro blogging crazy is kicking in, IMO. There's also legal file sharing sites like Box.net and media sites like Last.FM, Anywhere.FM, and possibly even Wixi.com (not sure Wixi's going to take off). Then, there are video hosting sites like BlogTV, Viddler.com, Kyte.TV, Vpod.TV, BlogTalkRadio.com.

I know, I know, I don't seriously expect you guys to integrate all of these, I'm just throwing them out there in hopes that some can get worked in sometime.

I personally like the new look/style/etc. Keep up the great work!!

OH and I forgot the community UI idea--perhaps you could have something that would allow users to log into any community site and just leave it at that? Just a little UI or even just a web page that would display all of the communities the user has memberships in. Click one and up pops a log in form for that site.

Just a thought!

Hey peteski,

Thanks for the kind words and suggestions!

As you can see at www.flock.com/privatebeta, the focus of our 1.0 is indeed social browsing, at an even more powerful level than just seeing your communities.

As for integrating other services, we consider services to integrate based on community requests, service popularity, service growth, API availability, brand compatibility, and several other factors. Some make it in, some don't. Requesting them is always good (I log every vote). :)

Additionally, we plan to enhance our developer resources this year to make it easier for developers to plug their own services into Flock. Everybody wins.

Flock on!

One more vote for Tumblr integration. The Media Bar and Tumblr could have a beautiful relationship. (Imagine dragging a YouTube video or a Flickr image out of the Media Bar right to your Tumblr blog. Sweet!)

Let's not forget Last.fm, my other social networking obsession. Integrating support for that into Flock would be pretty sweet.

@luxus: I'd like to do this, but I have reservations...two, really:

1. Cheating. This could be beat by making you vote with a flock.com account, but that's some development work that I don't know if I can justify
2. You folks, as awesome as you are, don't represent the entire Flock userbase...you're all awesome, advanced, evangelistic users. Your vote is very important (and you can see that we take it seriously...Twitter is not a mass-market service), but can't be considered to realistically represent our whole audience. I'm not sure how to reconcile this.

So for now, I will continue to manually log votes. :)

PS: Picasa is being investigated for integration in our next big release, 1.1. I can't make any promises, but it's looking very good so far! More news when I have it.

I would definitely like to see Flock integrated with Picasa, Tumblr, and maybe even Pownce. Have Flock's developers ever considered integrating the more popular forum software like Invision (http://www.invisionboard.com/)? It sure would be a useful way to track friends, replies, and posted media.

@Donna Miller: You can update Twitter by clicking your current status. You can then type it in and hit enter. We'll be exposing this with an "edit" button in Flock 1.1, as it is hard to find.
