Hi ypatis,

You don't see any favorites in the Favorites Manager? To open the manager, select Manager your favorites in the Favorites menu.

What version were you using before the upgrade?

Favorites Totally Dysfunctional

Greetings! I set Flock up and while it seems to have imported my Firefox Bookmarks, In Flock all Favorite listings are non-fuctional, and clicking on "Manage Favorites", or ANY favorites function, does nothing. Other than that, while Flock seems to execute instances of itself somewhat slower than Firefox does, everything else seems to work.

Hi,

Have you installed extensions?

Hi Jack,

What version of Flock are you using? To find out, type about: in the address bar and press enter.

To view your favorites, select Manage Your Favorites from the Favorites menu.

What extensions are you using? What do you mean your favorites are missing from the front page?

Hi,
I had to restore my hard drive after a crash. But the restore didn't seem to reinstall my favorites, feeds, and extensions. Can someone tell me where this info is located? Once I know where it is on my backup drive I can replace it on my new XP OS drive. THANKS!

Flock stores your favorites/feeds/extensions/etc. in a profile. In WinXP, your profile can be found at:

C:\Documents and Settings\[your login name here]\Application Data\Flock\
For links to the profile location in XP and other OSs, read this Flock profile info FAQ.

You'll want to delete the "Browser" folder from your current hard drive and replace it with the one from your backup drive. (Make sure that you have that folder on your backup drive, or you will have just lost any settings made since the system restore.)

When I changed to Flock from Netscape, I was using 7.2 not 8 which is the option given to bring over favorites. My favorites are in 7.2 How do I get them over?

My favorites toolbar has disappeared. I can open the favorites sidebar and they're all there, but I rely on the links on my toolbar. I'm on an Intel Macbook Pro, OSX 10.4.11. Is it something I've done? The only add-on I have is a French dictionary.

My favorites are gone and nothing shows up in any of the sidebar functions. Nothing. I've recently installed a toolbar from http://websitetrafficbuildingtool.media-toolbar.com/ but everything worked fine until this morning when I logged on. I tried reinstalling v.1.2.1 but nothing changed. Need some help.

Hi there,

If you do have extensions, a lot of times they can hamper the functionality of Flock, even if they say they're compatible with the correct version. Please try de-activating them or running Flock in safe mode and see if that corrects the issue. See Flock FAQ here for instructions on safe mode.

Please let me know whether or not this helps and if not, we will try something else!

Thanks so much,

Thanks Jen for the information. I have followed the safe mode instructions and deactivated the media-toolbar but nothing has changed. I'm not sure how to uninstall the toolbar. Do you have any information about how to uninstall extensions?

Thanks,

John Good

ChrisVance

June 13, 2008 - 7:38pm

To uninstall extensions (AKA add-ons), go to Tools->Add-ons, select your extension, and click Uninstall.

Can you uninstall the toolbar, and is the sidebar working better for you?

John Good

June 14, 2008 - 8:11am

Thanks Chris, I figured that out after my previous message. I uninstalled the questionable extension but the problem remains. I've started Flock in safe mode without any change. Every time I click on the Flock icon I get the message that the last session ended wrong, do I want to restore the session or start a new one? Every session is the same whether restored or new - nothing in the sidebar; all of my favorites gone. Flock always opens to the default pages. Is session manger corrupt?

The only thing I can pull up in the sidebar is my history.

Are there any other suggestions of what I can do to remedy this problem?

Thanks for the help.

I have exactly the same problem as John, after the update, everything disappeared, and i haven't been able to find it at all anywhere on my computer, it seems like Flock just made them vanish, for no explained reason. Its kind of frustrating, but i hope the Flock team are doing there best to figure this out. I have no add-ons at all installed or anything like that. Help much needed, thanks!

Is the solution something simple like:
1a) tell us where the bookmarks data was stored for the old (1.1) version of Flock that we were using OR 1b) tell us where it's been shoved into a backup folder during the installation of Flock 2.0
2) tell us where the bookmarks data should be stored for the new (2.0) version of Flock
3) Tell us how to move the file from 1a) or 1b) to 2) ... ?

Or has the installation of Flock 2.0 erased this information?

Hey folks,

We're working on a solution for the favorites migration issue in the Flock 2 beta (one). We suspect your favorites are fine, just hidden, but we'll let you know more when we know.

Regardless, PLEASE back up your data before trying a beta version of ANY product!

Same result here when I installed Flock 2 Beta 1. All local favs are gone?! I backed up the "browser" folder from 1.2 but can't seem to find where the bookmarks are stored. Tried importing the "bookmarks.html" in the folder and it did nothing? If I reinstall 1.2 will my favs comeback. Btw really excited with this Flock 2 beta, nice and fast!

Sounds like I've had the same issue. Installed Flock 2.0 to replace 1.2 and everything has been kept (RSS feeds, people toolbar, add ons) except for the favorites (which were only on the toolbar). The bookmarks file is exactly the same size in the back up file from 1.2 and the new file of 2.0 - they're just not appearing.

Cheers for the new release. I had moved over to Firefox 3 when the betas were out for all the new functionality and so happy Flock now has the same:D

I just upgraded to the Flock 2 beta (one). Where did my favorites go?

For some people who are upgrading to Flock 2 from an earlier version of Flock, favorites will appear to be missing. Your favorites are NOT gone, just not showing up. We have a fix in the works, but you can manually restore your favorites by following these steps:

1. Close Flock
2. Download and run the Flock 1.2 installer
3. Open Flock 1.2
4. Open the Favorites menu
5. Click "Organize Favorites"
6. Go to the file menu of the dialog box
7. Choose "export"
8. Choose a name and place you will remember, export.
9. Close Flock
10. Run the Flock 2 beta installer
11. Open Flock 2 beta
12. Open the Favorites Menu
13. Click "Organize Favorites"
14. Open the "Import and Backup" menu
15. Choose "Import HTML"
16. Choose the file you exported earlier

All my favorites are gone from Flock 1.2

How exactly do i export them when there not even here in 1.2?

Evan Hamilton

June 26, 2008 - 10:17am

Hey Kane,

That would be very abnormal if your favorites aren't in Flock 1.2 after migrating back. To clarify:

  • You installed Flock 2b1, lost your favorites, and then installed Flock 1.2 again and your favorites were gone?

  • All your other content is there?

Hi Evan.

Nope, i seem to be having a totally different experience to everyone else here, i still Flock 1.2 when i lost my favorites, so i decided to download Flock 2.1 (beta) to see if it would sort out the problem, but still nothing. I still have my saved passwords, and history.. That's all fine. Its just the favorites that are really missing, i don't know how they vanished in Flock 1.2, but they did.

  1. Somehow lost all favorites in Flock 1.2
  2. Switched over to Flock 2.1 (beta) too see if it fixed the problem.
  3. Reinstalled Flock 1.2 to see if it brought anything back, still nothing.
  4. Switched back to Flock 2.1 (beta)

June 27, 2008 - 2:51pm

Hey Kane,

Thanks for the clarification. That's very weird, there's no reason your favorites should just disappear. Around the time that they disappeared did you install any extensions, make any changes to about:config, or anything like that? Do you have any extensions running? Have you tried disabling them?

Hi,

Very strange situation, I've never installed any extensions within the Flock browser, simply because I've never really needed to use any. Flock 1.2 was working perfectly, then after i shut my computer down (mac) then booted it back up ready to use Flock again, my favorites where gone, media streams etc. But my history was still there, perfect, and my saved passwords...

I'm having problems also... The first time I load Flock 2.0b1 (or Firefox 3), my Home Pages load up properly and all of my Favorites are loaded properly... if I close Flock and reload it, all of my Favorites are now gone and my Home button does not load my Home Pages... If I restart my computer it works correctly again...

Any ideas???

@Kane: Here's what you should try:

1. Close Flock.
2. Back up your profile folder (instructions at http://flock.com/faq/show/64#q_61799
3. Open Flock
4. Open the Favorites menu
5. Click "Organize Favorites"
6. Open the "Import and Backup" menu
7. Choose "Import HMTL"
8. Find the profile folder you backed up before. Open your specific profile (will be something like 4ad578asj8).
9. There should be a file called bookmarks.html. Import this.

Let me know if that works!

@baldbrian: That's very very weird. Do you have any extensions installed?

Hey Evan.

I did what you said, couldn't export the favorites in Flock 1.2, but i found them looking through the root folders, i have found the bookmarks.html. But there not my most recent, anyway, it does work, and its not a big issue for me to find the sites i visited and bookmarked. If that all makes sense at all. Would have just been nice for them to be there, hope everyone else gets there's sorted out.

Thanks Evan & Flock team, Kane.

Hey Kane,

I'm glad you got some of them back, sorry they're not totally up to date. I'm frankly pretty bewildered how your favorites could just disappear without you installing a new version or some sort of favorites-related addon.

The Flock FAQ "I just upgraded to the Flock 2 beta (one). Where did my favorites go?" is a specific workaround for when you run Flock 2.0 (beta 1) and only your local bookmarks are missing. This workaround is not designed to cover cases when your sidebar/blog settings go missing as well.

Sorry to hear that you lost stuff. When you say your sidebar was gone, what do you mean? That when you click the people sidebar, it asks you to login to Flickr/Facebook? When you open the Accounts and Services sidebar, do you see any accounts listed? What extensions/addons do you have installed?

Answering the above questions may help Flock pinpoint just what's going on. Since you experienced so many problems after installed the Flock 2 beta, it sounds like your profile is corrupted.

Email Flock Inc's community support lead, jen at flock dot com, and see if you can help her reproduce the problem.

Hey, I seem to be having the same problem that Kane was having, although with slightly different circumstances. I installed Flock 1.2 as my first install of flock about a month ago (was using firefox 2 before). I use delicious, so I didn't have a use for favorites except to have the quick links in the toolbar. To get the toolbar favorites to show up I went to the favorite manager and added each one, one at a time. They all showed up in the toolbar, but the funny thing was that they never showed up in the manager and still don't. If I click on the toolbar favorites folder in the favorites manager it says that I have 17 items in that folder, but nothing shows up no matter what I do.

This hasn't been an issue until now since the favorites DO show up in the toolbar and I can use them, but now I'd like to delete one of the toolbar favorites and replace it with something else, and I can't delete anything using the manager because nothing shows up in it.

Any ideas?

-Matt

Same problem - no favourites, no people, no media, nothing. Only thing is, as far as I know I didn't even install a beta, I just followed a prompt to upgrade to 1.2.4 today.

I'm on Mac OS X 10.5 and as far as I can tell, I have no extensions.

Thanks for contacting us. Can you tell me what version of the Flock browser you are using? You can confirm this for sure by going to your URL or address bar above and typing in about: We are partners with Yahoo, but not in fact Yahoo. Please let me know when you get a chance, thanks!

@ LizRice: So after you updated to Flock version 1.2.4, all of your Favorites disappeared? That is very odd. Is there any way at all that you deleted your profile folder? That could explain everything disappearing. Flock doesn't usually eat its own profiles :) If you want to email me directly at the email address listed below, we can try to figure out what happened here!

Using Flock 2.0b2 on Mac OS X 10.5.4, and my favorites have gone away like mentioned above. I tried the restore from profile trick, but there is nothing in the bookmarks.html file. I tried restoring from backup in the same menu, but, nothing happens (even though looking into the backup files, it seems that my bookmarks are in there).

It would be great if you could choose to sync FROM your delicious or magnolia bookmarks TO flock.

At any rate, I look forward to a fix.
