del.icio.us timestamps broken by Flock

Just wanted to give flock a try and wanted to use my del.icio.us account in it. But now all timestamps are fucked up. *gnarf*
Why did that happen. Now I am not able to use my del.icio.us account anymore because nothing is in the correct order. What sense does a button make that says 'earlier' when there are links newer than on the actual site.

My suggestion would be to tell people about that before taking login information from them.

Cheers,
madhatter

madhatter,

I apologize for any inconvenience that Flock caused. I do not know how Flock deals with del.icio.us timestamps. What exactly was changed in your timestamps?

What do you mean by "What sense does a button make that says 'earlier' when there are links newer than on the actual site."

Finally, what operating system are you using?

This happened to me as well. I'm using OS X (Tiger). This seems like it should be a pretty high priority thing to fix seeing as it ruins my account on *another* service. If it just caused problems within Flock, that wouldn't be so bad.

I have contacted Del.icio.us and they have to basically pull a backup of my account in order to fix it, it appears. They haven't done so yet, but until it's restored, my blog sidebar is showing old links.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do to help pinpoint this problem.

Hej Jon,

I am using OSX 10.4.6 (Tiger).

The problem with the timestamps is, that they are all in the order I saved the links in del.icio.us. But now it seems they are all mixed up. So, when I click on "earlier" on the del.icio.us homepage I get to links that might actually be older. But now that is not correct shown in del.icio.us because it got mixed up through initializing process of flock.

Cheers,
madhatter

Hi guys,

Thanks for the great responses. I too have seen this problem, but since I never go to the del.icio.us site, I did not notice it until you guys mentioned it. I have filed a bug report to track the problem. Also, I apologize for the problems Flock has caused. We hope to get this resolved soon.

As we have investigated the problem described, we have not created a scenario that describes your symptoms. Do you see an "imported" or other tags for the folder it was in? Or is the timestamps the only thing that Flock changed? Do you know if it occurred when you first enabled favorite sharing or when you marked individual favorites from being local to shared?

Hello Lloyd,

the only thing I noticed were the changed timestamps so the bookmarks/favorites got out of order at the del.icio.us website. It looked to me that flock is reading them in and then writing them out to del.icio.us again in one step while importing at the first start of flock.
But because they weren't read from beginning to end the were written in another order.
Do you know what I am trying to say?

Cheers,
Arvid

Hi Arvid,

Thank you for continuing to work with us on this.

Can you give an example of a del.icio.us bookmark that is out of order? Did this only occur once on import from del.icio.us, or everytime Flock starts? Is it all favorites, or only favorites that were already in Flock? Did you import from another browser?

Hello Lloyd,

one of my broken bookmarks is the first of these http://del.icio.us/deichkind/firebird

As you can see, all others are from august, 2005. I know that I bookmarked the first one back then, too.

I don't know if it would happen if I startup Flock again. At the moment I don't use flock, because I am afraid to mix it up more...

Cheers,
Arvid

I had the same issue; after installing the Flock beta this afternoon, I later noticed that all of the timestamps were way off. URLs I'd saved months ago were showing up with as having been posted today (28 June); recent links are now apparently from 4+ months ago.

del.icio.us' support suggested I post something here. Is there any way to restore the data?

Ethan and madhatter,

Did Flock only change the timestamp, or were other values changed as well?

As near as I can tell, only the timestamps were changed; all of my tags still seem to be intact:

Is there any news on a fix for this? del.icio.us says that the data's actually been changed on their end, so they can't refresh the cache--and as it stands right now, my 1500+ links are pretty broken.

It looks like the folks at del.icio.us managed to fix the problem; my timestamps are back to normal.

madhatter, Ethan, did you import to Flock from another browser? Are any of those del.icio.us bookmarks with the wrong date also imported from another browser?

We have found and fixed a couple of problems for a maintainance release soon, but I am still not confident that we are fixing the issue that is causing the most pain. We are still trying to isolate the problem :(

Ethan, do you know what and how del.ico.us fixed the problem? Otherwise, we can ask them.

I've had this problem, too. I recently upgraded to version 0.7.3, on July 20th, and some 203 of my older del.icio.us bookmarks reappeared on my del.icio.us page with a timestamp of that date. The link I most recently actually posted to del.icio.us now appears 3 pages back when i set del.icio.us to show 100 links per page. I have a "recent links" section on my blog, powered by the del.icio.us linkroll feature, which is consequently showing links which aren't really recent at all. I have had this happen before with earlier versions of Flock, when I thought it was something to do with the links I'd imported into del.icio.us from Firefox - and I 'solved' the problem by manually deleting all of them. Now it's happened again. It seems kind of random, too. I mean, why 203? Why not 201 or 204? Why not all of the earlier links I posted before the last actually most recent one?

I had this problem whan I tried Flock two months ago. The date of many of my del.icio.us bookmarks (not all of them) were modified by Flock, so they all looked posted on that day (June 1st 2006). Very disturbing.

Another pesky behaviour: Flock posted 3 bookmarks of its site to my del.icio.us account without asking, with tags I never used ("flock" "flockstart" "feedback"). Bugs happen, but this seemed done on purpose, and therefore even more irritating. :-/

Flock version was 0.5.15.0

Wow, I could not be more furious with Flock. I have over 1,000 del.icio.us bookmarks and Flock messed them all up. All the timestamps are screwed up, so sites I bookmarked over a year ago now say I bookmarked them an hour ago. This is a year of work put in by me all messed up by Flock's poor performance.

Sorry to be so harsh, but I really am shocked and disappointed.

Hello,

I am sorry to hear that you are having problems with Flock. It is unfortunate that Flock is causing problems with del.icio.us. I do have a few questions that might help fix this problem for the future.

Were just the timestamps changed? Or were tags also changed?
Were these favorites already added to Flock when do configured your del.icio.us account?

As far as I can see only timestamps were changed. With the exception of the 3 Flock bookmarks added by Flock itself, of course.

Were these favorites already added to Flock when do configured your del.icio.us account?

I'm sorry but I don't remeber what exactly I did, but I know I tested the del.icio.us feature when the first beta of Flock was released, then again on november 2005, and the 3rd time on june 2006, when Flock messed up some of my bookmarks.

Looking at the modified bookmarks I now notice that del.icio.us has kept the original posting date somewhere.
For example, look at the second bookmark here: http://del.icio.us/maddi/austria. It says I posted it "on june 01" (wrong date added by Flock), but if you click on "saved by xx other people" you'll see that on that page my entry is dated Oct '05.

This means del.icio.us may be able to restore the original dates, hopefully.

Hi maddi,

You might want to talk to del.icio.us support to see if it is possible to restore those dates. Sorry for the hassle.

WOW, I just installed Flock and it hosed my del.icio.us timestamps as well. I guess I will be checking in with the good people at del.icio.us to see if they can do the same for me. I'm SO glad I found this page.

I emailed del.icio.us support several days ago about this and have yet to get a response. Is there anyone that can help facilitate this? It's a huge hassle. Thanks in advance. My del.icio.us account name is whatevernevermind.

Hello,

I don't have any weight in the del.icio.us community. Perhaps you should try to get their attention again. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Hey Jon. This really sucks. I've tried three times now and nothing. Is there anything that you have seen elsewhere that might be helpful? I'm desperate at this point.

No, unfortunately not. There isn't anything we can do really. I just mentioned asking del.icio.us support because I heard they had helped other users. Hopefully your request will get answered soon.
