In the photo uploader box, when a user clicks on the "Choose Photos" icon, the standard OS X choose file box open. For Mac users (well many of us anyways), choosing photos from the hard disk isn't the best way. Using OS X's iPhoto inegration (so that we can select from our iPhoto collections) makes choosing photos much more intuitive and allows us to get to exactly what we're looking for easily. The best part is that we won't have to open iPhoto, keeping valuable system resources free. However, Flock doesn't support iPhoto integration. But, there is a great workaround that is simple and very functional.
**This hack requires Mac OS 10.4 to work
1) Make sure that you have the "Script Menu" installed. To do this go to Applications > AppleScript > AppleScript Utility, and makes sure that "Show Script Menu in menu bar" is checked.
2) Open Automator (Applications > Automator) and click on iPhoto (it's listed under applications).
3) Drag the "Ask for Photos" action to the right side, and make sure that the "Allow multiple selection" box is checked (if it isn't, you will only be able to select 1 photo at a time).
4) Save this workflow as a plug-in (File > Save As Plug-in) inside of your ~/Library/Scripts directory (if one isn't there create one). You can call your new plug-in whatever you choose. I use the simple and intuitive "Choose Photo . . ."
Now that you've created the plugin, it's time to use it. When you have the Flock Photo Uploader open, simply go to your scripts menu and choose your newly created plug-in. You will get the standard Choose Photo from iPhoto box with all of your collections just as if you were browsing iPhoto itself (you are browsing iPhoto), only iPhoto will not open. Select whichever images you want and drag them to the Photo Uploader box. It works great, and is much easier than trying to navigate through iPhoto's directories on disk.
