As much as Flock rocks, there are small problems. *cough* eatting megs of memory *cough*
Great news if you have this problem! Flock is being put on a diet. Dr. Pete has put Flock through a thorough examination and determined that gzip compression doesn't agree with Flock indexer. Simply put, we have a huge memory leak every time we index a compressed web page. (many sites send files compressed, including gmail and meebo which cause flock to leak LOTS of memory)
We are actively working on a fix for this, a few other small bugs and add support for BB code. We will release a new version of the Cardinal soon, but I'll let Mike (older than epoch) Dosik blog about that.
This is great for a lot of users.
I have noticed the big memory loads (and I do use gmail, a lot) however, it hasn't really bothered me, my laptop has 2 gigs of ram and even with flock hitting as high as 180 megs, I still have a gig and a half unused, when I am just browsing.
The bug is definitely Flock specific. When we find bugs related to mozilla, we make sure to add them to that bugzilla and work on getting it fixed in both locations.
That is great, i right now have to open meebo in Maxthon for it to remain safe. Flock got to Bleed out 300mb of ram memory using Meebo in just one hr..
you have done a really great job with flock! congrats, i've been a user since the beginning. but this thing with swallowing the memory out of the whole computer is not good. i hope you can get this right on the next release. I have a quadG5 running with 6 GB of RAM, and sometimes flock can eat up more memory than photoshop!

i used to love flock, until public beta came out, and then for some reason the memory leaks started coming out too. im so glad you guys have finally found the problem and are working on a fix! by any chance will flock start using less memory than firefox (which wouldnt be too hard these days) or even opera (which would be pretty hard, they seem to have a nice garbage collector working)

So was this ever fixed? I'm running 0.7.6 from a fresh download, and I still get 90+% CPU useage if I have Gmail running in a tab. Gmail isn't the only culprit, but since I always have it open it alone is sufficient to deter me from recommending Flock to my Linux-using friends.

But I want to say if you want to know more about the kal, I will tell you. If you want to change your kal, you can kal online geons directly to change a better one. So you can be stronger.
