May I know why you plan to drop shadows support? I use the shadows system on all of my pcs so this decision would directly affect me. The Shadows api is partly compatible to the del.icio.us api so this can't be the reason ... or are there any licensing issues?

del.icio.us is the uggliest website I've seen in my life, it doesn't offer half the service that are provided by shadows (for example the website snapshot, that is so so useful)... and I just never can't remember how to spell it, is it de.lici.ous, deli.cio.us, it's just a silly name for an abominable web site (okok, I'm a bit rude :)...
I can understand that flock is willing to become a 100% yahoo product. But I don't want to use exclusively yahoo services, cause my browser asks me to... If so, I'd rather surf the web with a more common browser w/ the plugins I've choosen
So I would as well be pleased to hear more on the reasons of this abandon...
I persoanlly do not use shadows, but would question why? You have gone through all the hard work in setting it up and getting it working and intergrated, seems a shame to lose it.
One of the things that helped firefox eat into ie's dominance was that the user was being offerred CHOICE in their browser; the choice of extensions, of appearance etc, not what the browser company forced on them. Seems a little bit backwards for Flock to start removing choice from the user.
If it is a technical issue, then as a developer you should see it as a challenge to overcome, not a problem to discard. If it is a Flock Inc - Shadows Inc corporate no longer together thing, don't cut off your nose to spite your face.
Build up a selection of favorite services, and if Yahoo! demand stuff for their buck just make del.icio.us the default. Oh, and ma.gnolia.com support would be way cool too.

Why don't you use a plugin system for the Favorites Sharing? With a plugin System volunteers could write support for any Favorite Service. I'm waiting since my first usage of Flock for a possibility to use or integrate Mister Wong Favorite Sharing.

No! Please don't drop shadows support. Flock has got style, so has shadows; del.icio.us doesn't.
while I dont use shadows, I use delicious, I still feel that it is a bit against what I thought flock stood for in terms of sharing information with its users regarding updates and the like..
We have been given no reason at all why shadows has been discontinued just that it is going to be..
Can Flock please consider adding Blinklit.com as a bookmarks service? I do agreee with the other comments, Flock should be adding other services not removing them.

And if it is, as someone suggested above, a step towards Flock becoming an entirely Yahoo orientated product, then does that mean Photobucket support is getting the boot next?
I sincerely hope not. I love Flock because of it's versatility and I would hate to see such a wonderful product focusing only on one companies products just to make more money.

All -- sorry for omitting the explanation in the announcement. The reason is that we had to completely re-implement Favorites sharing in Danphe because it is based on Firefox 2.0 and we wanted to have standard bookmarks UI. Now as time is tight and Shadows themselves have de-prioritized this service, we are looking for additional ones to implement. This is not about intentionally reducing choice, and we may get to implementing support later (or someone in the community can do so using the Delicious code as a model). Thanks for your continued support and use of Flock!
Taking away one of the two supported bookmarking services is a big decision, I think that we should be informed about the reason(s) of this.
I use del.icio.us, but I like to have the option to switch to other services if I find that I can't use it anymore or other service is better.

I would have to disagree with the decision to drop shadows.com
Besides the fact that the other service has a stupid name, it is difficult to spell [i.e. you mis-spelled the url it in your post and the link goes to nowhere].
Truthfully, the there are two reasons for my decision to get flocked: 1. the integration of shared favorites services with the favorites interface, and that handy spell-checker.
Throw us a bone, and at least provide us shadows.com users with an export utility we can use prior to V 1.0 release?
Not only you guys shoulnd't "des-integrate" shadows but also rise the bar and give us, the users who love Flock, the chance to "integrate" our favorite service, be it the-difficult-to-spell-one, blinklist, magnolia whatever, etc. Same for the photo service. Thanks
Paulc brought up a good point above. Shadows users currently have NO WAY of exporting our favorites to a different service. Will Flock be providing a way for us to seamlessly transition the favorites service to del.icio.us?
If we just automatically switch to del.icio.us within the Services section of the browser, will everything magically switch over? I've been a bit nervous to try that out but I might try setting up a test account in a bit to do so.
Wow! What a major disappointment!
I have been using Flock since 0.7.3 and I switched to the Flock browser intially because of its support of the Shadows API. The Shadows integration is the single-handed number one feature that I use on a day-to-day basis and has tremendously helped my productivity.
My blog service (Vox) is not supported and I use Flickr here and there. I can get RSS feeds in Firefox 2.0.
I have been heavily touting the Flock browser to friends, family and clients over the last several months. And now, I'm not sure that I can continue to use it without the support for Shadows.
I very much hope that you'll reconsider this bad decision. At the least, Flock should be providing service options for a minimum of 2 favorites services, to give users choice. Otherwise, Flock is beginning to look more and more like an extension of Yahoo!.

Is there a chance of Flock adding support for Simpy ?
I looked at the JavaScript for del.icio.us support about a year ago, and found that it would not be very hard to add support for Simpy. With Simpy's REST API, I'd estimate a few days of 1 person's work. I'd be more than happy to provide all support you need from Simpy's end.

The service isn't completely forgotten about, it seems it is more just on the back burner for release, to be reimplemented in 1.1+
Shadows seems to be offline. Either they've killed the service or their servers are down. I hear that they're going away entirely.
Adding Wink support might be a good way to go. They aren't going anywhere. They have people search too.
I would really love to see BlinkList supported by Flock (as mentionned in the previous comments). BL is just almost perfect. Check it out.
The new bookmarking service I have been using is Blue Dot (http://www.bluedot.us), which I really like. The increased social aspect of their approach seems to be right in line with what Flock is trying to do.
I'd also like to see being blinklist.com added.
Just wanted to add my vote for Blinklist integration. It's the only social bookmarking site I use and it's one of the reasons I DON'T use Flock more. Also need support for more blog sites. Blogger Beta, Multiply, Blinklife.

as a side thought, it would be great if the mechanism was closer to how PictureSync deals with services. you add as many as you'd like and you keep em all in sync opposed to having to choose single services like the current model in Flock

Arrrrgh! That's really bad news for me. Actually, I like the simplicity of del.icio.us, but Shadows offers better control over public/private bookmarks...unless del.icio.us has made some changes that I don't know about.
Sigh...I think I'm going back to Firefox + del.icio.us extension, because Shadows integration was the only thing I was really using in Flock.
Firefox + delicious is a pretty good combo.
